Yeah there does actually need to be a discussion about DINIOs (Dems in name only) and people who run as Dems in Portland because they know they’d lose any other way. They’re pulling an already moderate party further to the right.

Why the fuck did the @multdems.bsky.social elect Ciatta Thompson as their Vice Chair? She ran and lost her District 4 city council election, and while she’s registered as a Dem, she is indistinguishable from a Republican. You let an opp that has access to addresses through VAN in! This is dangerous!

As someone very acutely aware of this year's flu strain at the moment, I'd rather not have to worry about going into next year's flu season without some protection.

This is not only some damn fine reporting, but that is dynamite writing/editing too. Literally lol'd at this section.

‘“Get in there and get me a sazerac!” That’s the opening salvo from Donnie Oliveira, deputy city administrator, in a text message to Jon Isaacs, Portland Metro Chamber executive vice president of public affairs, just before the two met and talked about Zenith Energy on Jan. 22.’

This article by @jeremiahhayden.bsky.social is a must read for everyone who cares about local democracy, transparency, and accountability in Portland.

Pretty embarrassing that this might actually require multiple laws to get them to stop putting kids lives in trash bags.

On my way out of City Hall, I saw a young lady who had been crying in the council chambers during testimony, so I stopped to ask if she was OK. She expressed that hearing politicians talk and debate policy, but not specifically about how to keep people housed was more frustrating than she expected.

Very bogus that PBOTs transportation wallet is largely region locked to people in CES and nw pdx. It’s literally my favorite thing the city has ever done and it should be easily available to the whole city

Big day for the City of Portland's Housing and Homelessness Committee! PNW's Board member Andrea Haverkamp will be testifying in support of @councilormorillo.bsky.social's proposal to limit Algorithmic rent setting programs...

Hell yeah, brother

"Too many members of our party are guided only by feckless centrism and an allegiance to norms and bipartisanship that cannot withstand the rise of fascism in the United States." Hell yeah @councilormorillo.bsky.social

"Councilor Sameer Kanal is ruffling the feathers of the Portland Police Association."

Welp. Better luck next year.

I'm sure very few people know about this. Inmates in 43 states are charged a per diem cost for "room and board" ranging between $40 to hundreds of dollars. In some states you owe for every day of your original sentence EVEN IF YOU GET OUT EARLY. www.welcometohellworld.com/there-is-no-...

if in the last month you've found yourself thinking "with all the shitshow nationally thank god i live in portland, i feel safe here" well, portland can't be a sanctuary without more housing. @pnwelcome.bsky.social needs your help to ensure portland builds enough homes: bsky.app/profile/pnwe...

Next Thursday, the Oregon House Committee on Climate, Energy, and Enviro is having a hearing on a bill that would allow a certificate permitting a small modular nuclear reactor project to take place in Umatilla County. Submit opposition testimony here: olis.oregonlegislature.gov/liz/2025R1/T...

i think its impossible to see this administration as anything other than one self-interested grift. there's barely a single shred of ideological consistency or coherence that extends beyond an annihilation of governing capacity in the service of self-enrichment and looting

Still no confirmation that the Zenith resolution will be heard at next week's city council meeting. If you're in D2, please reach out to Council President @councilorepg.bsky.social for confirmation that the council is going to take this issue seriously and not delay it with endless process.

One thing I've been deliberately trying to do in 2025 is listening to bands from or currently residing in Portland. The Merc has been very helpful with this. It also keeps me from listening exclusively to music released between 2003-2012, as I am wont to do.

vimeo.com/ondemand/ato... Did you know that there are multiple bills in Salem trying to sidestep the very clear criteria Oregon has for allowing nuclear reactors? Did you know that this includes trying to undercut the law that requires a statewide vote on this? (btw free doc thru feb code: ocf25)

may be beside the point/extremely obvious but i feel like you can only ignore extreme wealth inequality for so long before it metastasizes into something that fundamentally remakes and destabilizes the world by giving people access to so much money that they are fully above consequence

I do think it would serve everyone’s interest for all city council members to do threads like this for council meetings, and credit to Kanal for having constituent feedback inform votes/questions

NEWS: Sources tell me that DOGE is setting its sights on the Department of Labor next. DOL workers have been ordered to give DOGE access to whatever they ask for—or risk termination. “We’re supposed to stop everything we’re doing and do whatever the DOGE kids ask… It feels dirty and illegal.”

this is so cool — read the abstract, it’s really something

This comes just days after two Portland City Councilors introduced an ordinance to slow this process down.

Call him before Congress, start reading out his SSN and those of everyone in his family, and ask him when he wants it to stop.

If you're looking for a way to vent your frustration about Zenith: (1) come to the city and protest on Wednesday morning at 8:30 AM; (2) contact your council representatives or testify during the Wednesday meeting urging them not to appoint Michael Jordan as city administrator.

Not for nothing but some of the bills that are being pushed by republicans in the Oregon legislature right now (lookin at you, SB635) are looking to declare we are in an energy emergency in order to justify nuclear reactors in Oregon. But apparently we have unlimited energy.

The City intentionally masked their communications on Zenith to try to elude records requests and obstruct transparency. How entrenched are these practices? What else did the City hide? This is why the resolution put forward by @councilorgreen.bsky.social and @councilormorillo.bsky.social is vital

“We’re not going to let anybody come in here,” Knutson said. “If you’re afraid of being deported by ICE, you can come here and we will protect you until things get worked out."
