This is such a good example of "turn every page" journalism - nothing less fun/glam than clicking through every footnote. And it's roughly 10,000x more newsy than the thumbsucker RFK profiles reported with big travel budgets.

You cannot blame "formatting" for completely fabricated sources. What a joke.

I think this points up some of the failures of coverage of Trump's lawlessness: You could've read dozens of articles on Trump's tariff policy with no inkling of how unprecedented & legally dubious was the legal authority he claimed to impose them. www.nytimes.com/2025/05/28/b...

I think it's best to see Trump's pardon spree as a kind of autocrat's reparative therapy. Either he does this or they put him on this when his will is being thwarted on most fronts. Putin, courts, Dan Bongino crying on Fox. The pardon power is total. Unthwartable and unreviewable. Comfort food.

A tiny but wild snapshot of the current chaos

I see all the newspaper editors think everybody is too mean to Elon

That's right, a court applying an obvious law concerning unilateral tariffs imposed by a madman created the uncertainty and upended negotiations, not the madman himself. Too bad he concluded like one minor non-deal in 50+ days instead of 90 deals/90 days, right? Jesus, the Post sounds DISAPPOINTED.

Gonna give y'all some freebie headlines: MUSK DEPARTS, LEAVING TRAIL OF DESTRUCTION, DEFICITS, AND DEATHS MUSK SCORECARD: EMPTY PROMISES, FEDERAL WORKFORCE BRAIN DRAIN MUSK'S LEGACY: CAREER CIVIL SERVANTS REPLACED WITH INCOMPETENT WHITE NATIONALISTS DOGE HARMS WILL PERSIST FOR GENERATIONS

Yesterday, I saw Musk's biographer Walter Isaacson wheeled out for a TV interview under the chyron "Musk: Back to Business" and it really feels like the media is entirely happy to go along with a concerted PR effort to increase Musk's finances by downplaying what he did to your government.

It takes 5 #BrokenTimes reporters to tell us he is "disappointed" and "frustrated." Ask me whether I give a holy fuck about his pouting after destroying countless lives. I don't. A Disillusioned Musk, Distanced From Trump, Says He’s Exiting Washington www.nytimes.com/2025/05/28/u...

To the #BrokenPost, shredding the Constitution in a fascist, authoritarian coup is a "power move." Supreme Court walks a tightrope as it confronts Trump’s power moves www.washingtonpost.com/politics/202...

stop writing that he’s leaving DOGE without mentioning that just a few days ago the solicitor general told the United States Supreme Court that he is not part of DOGE

Editors, please assign a deep dive piece on the grave damage musk & doge have done to the United States, rather than how he’s feeling about it.

Openly negotiating the price of the bribe being paid to the President to grant approval to a regulatory merger. Happening right in front of us.

Paramount has offered $15 million to settle, according to people familiar with the situation. Trump’s team wants more than $25 million and is also seeking an apology from CBS News, one of the people said. All people involved in the deal clearing understand the payment as the price of merger approval

“The billionaire thanked US President Donald Trump - and said he was stepping down as his "scheduled time as a Special Government Employee comes to an end". Yeah, right… 🤣🤣🤣

Tired: Having the world’s greatest higher education system, luring global elites here to learn our ways & defray costs for American students Wired: ha ha fuck that

On the one hand a strategic pick, given that Bove may live for three or four more centuries. On the other, exposure to sunlight turns him to pile of smoldering ash, so he’ll only be able to hear cases at night.

Axios Brain should be in the DSM-5

Kind of baffled by this passage. Starts off saying the funds were "wasted" on "equity projects". Then says that by equity she means making the system easier to use and more accessible, which sounds like a good thing to do. Then she says that didn't count as bad DEI.

Yup. And it’s not even necessarily “answer questions”, it’s “make mouth noises after political reporter stops speaking”

Hi we're the Washington Post. You may have once known us as the Democracy Dies in Darkness people. But that's old-fashioned, we're the Spread the Propaganda of Neo-Nazi Billionaire Corporate Welfare Cases people now. P.S. Rocket explosions are good, actually.

Just call it the Self-Inflicted Wound Era, when we took a bunch of stuff that was working largely fine (vaccines, weather monitoring, friendly relations with like 175 countries, cancer research, renewable energy credits, the FAA, global trade, etc etc) and just broke them for giggles

The difference between "access" and "transparency" is really important. Trump is absolutely giving more reporters more time to ask questions (inc. outlets that just want to praise him). At the same time it's stopped publishing transcripts and WH visitor logs.

what i like about this is that politico doesn’t ask whether trump is actually doing the job of president. the frequency with which trump is on tv suggests not!

The Trump regime has gutted the govt; assaulted the constitution; apprehended immigrants off streets w/o due process sending them to foreign gulags; blown up alliances as economy hurtles towards uncertainty. Yet here is POLITICO fawning over his media appearances while throwing shade at Biden.

Referring to the president as the commander in chief has always been insidious but uses like this make clear why it's worse than ever now. The president is the commander in chief of the armed forces and that's it. He has no authority to command private individuals or institutions to do anything.

US administration openly intervened on behalf of the authoritarian populist candidate in the Polish presidential election

"aside from the lamentable attempt to ban AP"

That actually kind of raises more concerns, in my book.

The primary reason people like Jake Tapper and Alex Thompson are so obsessed with the Biden story isn't politics, thought they're clearly friendlier toward MAGA than toward Democrats (especially Thompson). It's that they're shallow gossip ninnies who think they're doing investigative journalism.

there still isn't even any good evidence of biden's supposed cognitive decline. it's a bunch of tiktok memes

The rapidity with which the media conventions have shifted to "trump's mad at you, what did you do to deserve it" is disconcerting but as with pretending anti-vax raw milk drinking carnivores who sun their assholes have a point to make, power really does alter media behavior bsky.app/profile/lemi...

Who knows, maybe you can even tie this to disrespecting West Point graduates and the fallen on Memorial Day with crazed, garbage-filled campaign speeches in lieu of inspiration or remembrance.

How desperate is our oligarch media to show support for Dear Leader's policies? This farmer lives 1,200 miles from the Boston Globe's coverage area but they had to put him on the front page of the website because - get this - he voted for Trump 3 times, and he STILL supports Trump!
