And let’s keep this in mind from the BBC. Note the last line.
“Trump announced he will host a news conference in the Oval Office on Friday with Musk, writing: "This will be his last day, but not really, because he will, always, be with us, helping all the way."
Tell the story of the career federal worker who was the best at what they do & worked hard every day, and is now worried about how to pay the mortgage. The NIH scientists who had to walk away from potential health breakthroughs. The fired NOAA weather forecasters. Check in on them, & how they feel.
Deadly serious about this. A lawyer friend is interested in exploring. Also whether there might be a cause of action against DOGE staff for impersonating government officials and doing tortious harm to contract holders. There might be some relevant case law.
"Empathy is the greatest weakness of Western civilization, but also everyone has to be nice to me specifically 24/7 and tell me what a special boy I am."
Or that his attack on USAID will likely lead to 14 million deaths by 2030. If you have to interview him, ask him about the blood on his hands and don't let him bullshit his way out of it.
And Musk is the same guy obsessed with birth rates and warning that a decline in them will mean a collapse of civilization yet hes busy making moves that will cost untold millions of lives. Hes clearly a genius🙄
Yup. This isn’t a split with Trump, this is mission accomplished. Got the contracts, fired anyone regulating him, and gained unprecedented and untold access to sensitive government and taxpayer data. Unlike the first two, that last one will be nearly impossible to undo.
Exactly!! What he says or how he feels is not important. What he has done to our system of government and its infrastructure is what we should be screaming from the top of mountains. The damage he’s done will require the whole government infrastructure be replaced; servers, codes, everything!
And contrast that against the fact that rather than pulling $2t out of the budget all he managed to pull out at the cost of all the damage he got was $150m (dropped down to $130m). Thats just 0.0022% of the budget. And at the cost of all those agencies.
**Whispers** Many editors at US news cos (Legacies + Digital First Newbies) capitulated long ago by Refusing to sincerely prioritize the hiring/retaining/promotions of Qualified journos from diverse backgrounds. Homogenous news orgs’ Leadership is what’s sinking Accountability/Watchdog reporting 🫢
PS: Some of us called out El*n and other alleged #BigTech “Geniuses” long ago as 21stC SnakeOil salesmen. But, eh — unless you’re in the Favored Pool of Legacy / Digital First Newbie outlet columnists/staffers, your expertise is ….
Also calculate how much all this chaos has cost the taxpayers. And how little if any "waste fraud and abuse" was found.
Itʻs a chimera. And I donʻt mean a creature with the head of a goat and the body of a lion.
That’s hilarious. The editors and reporters are having their doors broken down by people ready to share their feelings about this and that.
They couldn’t leave their office to dig up a source on something if they wanted to. And they don’t want to. Because the stories just come right to their office.
Editors are part of the problem. They love Trump and Musk, those two provide them with endless copy. So of course they never even put "DOGE" in quotation marks - even though it isn't a real department.
It's not even that, I think: they're afraid of being the subject of a temper tantrum, and they want to maintain relationships for access, and they think framing rich people positively will get them tangible benefits in the future.
Surely important, relevant connections of note! The only thing that needs to be culled is all the inept and traiterous folks in our top leadership, the Cabinet, and big media.
This has been reported on plenty already hasn't it? NYT and others dug through their purported savings, found the lies, the site revised, it was analyzed again. It was done continuously. Also, DOGE isn't gone, only Musk
The fact that almost all of my friends and peers who went into federal government after grad school have lost their jobs means I will never ever forgive him and hope he will be mocked mercilessly until the day he dies
I'm also loving all the pieces about how we can all relax bc he says he is stepping back from doge. Great news! The fox has left the hen house. All the hens are dead. No more eggs for anyone. Cheers?
well, and he left Russel Vought in charge, who is arguably far more dangerous because he is the quiet one who just murders people in the shadows and keeps going
Don’t forget to include how he fired many top notch people to clean up DEI. How’s that working out for him and the country ? And why have any sympathy for the the devil when he never did have the details?!
You better believe foreign nations are doing a deep dive on the American electorate which is ultimately responsible for the all of the consequences from the 2024 election. The American society is untrustworthy, unstable and unreliable. Americans overthrew its democratic, Constitutional government.
Poor, poor Elon. He dismantled our government and its institutions. Destroyed the careers of thousands of federal workers. He spread lies about fraud. Left with his pockets full of government contracts. And the NY Times and other publications, lap up his PR redemption tour without any pushback.
It infuriates me that they let the word "wasteful spending" go unconsidered. These are funds appropriated by Congress--people who were voted in--why would Musk have any grounds to decide what is "waste"??
It’s all a ruse, of course. He’s got all the data and all the contracts and all the money, and he gets to get away with whatever criminal stuff he’s done. That’s what he wanted.

My granddaughter became AmeriCorps counselor to help low income kids get into college. DOGE / Trump defunded AmeriCorps and she was unable to help for the last 3 weeks of school. How many kids were affected is something we’ll never know. So much DOGE damage.

Could ask an administrative law attorney, “if a SGE doesn’t have decision-making authority, should all his decisions be rescinded?”

Fuck Trump and Musk. They're cruel and should have their wealth taxes and redistributed.
It’s a crime
He did it because he could and benefited from it, too.
Yes, please stop reporting the ashes as weather.
We don’t need vibes. We need accountability.
We remember who they fired.
We remember what they took.
News as a commodity must end.
(I mean, THEN I want the deep dive on DOGE's efforts to tear down every American institution)
What did he bring in?
What did he take out?
What did he leave behind?
Itʻs a chimera. And I donʻt mean a creature with the head of a goat and the body of a lion.

And also a deep dive on the all that he did to award his businesses contracts and regulatory ease.
