Eh. I've got a lot of that gen-x pessimism that I'm trying to replace with optimism as I can. I like animals, books, plants, and kindness. He/Him.
I suspect this account will largely be an old-man-yells-at-cloud space

I think MAGA absolutely will reduce immigration. But only because no one will want to be here anymore as America declines.

I'm a little weirded out by how horny the Doctor is. They've been flirty before, but I can't recall them being out and out horny.
I'm cool with it, just not my prefered direction.

Administration's *job* is to talk about funding. I'll agree about admin salaries and sports funding though.
Not sure what you mean about grant funding going into a void... It is all well tracked and accounted for at my institution.

A shitload. Definitely a problem that has complicated causes.

I pretty whole heartedly disagree. Source: also been in higher ed over 20 years.

Its pretty easy to understand - though profoundly stupid: right wing media has galvanized a Republican base to support a fascist dictator. The base is so unified that anyone stepping out of line on the R side is replaced. Repeat that through a few election cycles and: boom. No one stands up.

I think there is a point where you have to fall in line and make the best possible choice available... But we are about as far from that point as you can get right now. Dems are failing all around and need to get called on it.

I've never quite worked out the relationship between the old lady and mini-David Lynch to Bob.
They aren't *with* him exactly, but they maybe rely on him?

I think thinking about it as a con may make the most sense. 'You can't con an honest man' is a common saying... All of these people believe they are getting one over on everyone else - they are mean and stupid. They are the marks though that are giving up everything for nothing.

Are they just too close to things to see how bad they've gotten or are they just scamming for donations at this point?
Believing in and relying on an election in two years isn't going to cut it.

An administration or two ago, tinkering around the edges of these agencies or lobbying them from the White House was seen as an illegal infringement. Now Trump fully takes them over and barely a peep.

There are only two ways to treat this: 1. As the dumb as dirt ramblings of an idiot, or 2. As an obscenity that should be shamed mercilessly.

I think about 80% of the images and videos from this account are AI, and people always comment on it, and the account never addresses it.
I've been on the fence about blocking this account personally.

Which is why things like the Tulsa Race Massacre get "rediscovered" sometimes. These are known historical facts that are worked out of the general consciousness by neglect and obfuscation.

I'd say the safety features for a sous vide are probably not up to the level you'd expect for a baby bath.

I was delighted the first time I installed Linux. Debian. It was so easy. In addition to not having to find the driver disks - some cd-rom, some floppies! - I also didn't need to track down a product key (that didn't work half the time).
Windows installs have gotten a lot easier since then though.

Installing Linux has been easier than installing Windows for at least 20 years in my opinion. Linux does a way better job of detecting your hardware and setting up drivers.

I missed the memo about capital B black and little w white... Is that a thing *at all* or is it just some made up grievance?
I know the LatinX thing was kind of a thing, but I never heard anyone policing language about it... Just making fun of it.

I might argue it is less than that. The majority of R. Congress people probably don't care one way or the other. Their only want is to make Trump happy.

Most universities depend on some amount of federal funding. The fascistst will almost certainly withold that funding to try to force compliance, and that will almost certainly work.
Just the 15% IDC change that they are doing is enough to shutter some universities.

He doesn't care about the data. He just wants to punish the people his supporters don't like. And even though a lot of his supporters probably depend on these programs... They somehow think it doesn't apply to them.

That's just a story they tell teenagers to keep them from posting stuff, like the "mark on your permanent record".
Things are lost on the internet every day. This whole period will likely be seen as a dark age in another couple hundred years.

Reading Parable of the Sower... And it isn't exactly bringing joy, but it is relevant for the time. I was alarmed a bit when the date in the book was literally the same day I started it.

An alarming amount of people that should know better do want AI. When I get to ranting about it - and I do rant - their eyes glass over, and then they say, " yeah, but it is good for X" ...when it is demonstrably not good at X.

That's what I was yelling when I saw the headline. If the judge isn't physically blocking access, then chances are she didn't halt anything with the court order.
Not angry with the judge. The press has failed in so many ways.
