Louisiana law targets local pollution monitors with harsh fines, spurring federal lawsuit - EHN apnews.com/article/canc...

A solid team effort from @mongabay.com examining the impact of the Trump's administration's cuts to USAID and conservation funding on the global illegal wildlife trade. 'The traffickers are going to have more space to operate, and it’s just going to put these species back on a path of extinction.'

This story requires a great deal more attention. The Trump administration is doing everything it can to get Russian gas back into Europe. This is Washington and Moscow now in full strategic alignment via a shared vision of a fossil fuel future.

"the two most recent recessions... were both unusual. They were unusually rapid... What normally happens is a slow build and a slow roll. So those who are looking for everything to be resolved in the next month or two, you need to shake that habit."

"Energy Star saves consumers and businesses more than $40 billion every year just by giving them clear information about the energy efficiency of products or buildings. And it does that at a cost of $32 million." - @usgbc.bsky.social's Ben Evans: wapo.st/3EYBwol via @maxinejoselow.bsky.social 🔌💡

NEWS: After canceling thousands of foreign students' immigration records — threatening their ability to study and live in the US — the Trump administration has reversed course and restored them all. It follows intense pushback from courts across the country. Details TK

EPA Administrator Zeldin's #EarthDay message: EPA to slash budget 65% starting with low income Americans, including communities of color who have borne the brunt of the environmental and public health harm EPA was designed to confront, targeting environmental justice & Diversity, Equity & Inclusion.

Remember: POTUS' power is cabined by law. Knowing these orders will flout the rule of law, remember this too if Trump moves forward: He will run into a unified wall of seasoned civic organizations, many of whom are *purpose-built* to fight the transgressive use of power. #Solidarity #PackStrength

Howdy folks, As the most of the data and tools used by the office are currently no longer available, services provided by the Office of the Texas State Climatologist will be drastically impacted to discontinued due to the laps of federal funding for the NOAA Regional Climate Centers.

A new @ucberkeleyofficial.bsky.social study found that electrifying the San Francisco Bay Area’s @caltrain.com commuter rail line reduced riders’ exposure to carcinogenic black carbon by an average of 89%: news.berkeley.edu/2025/04/16/e... 🔌💡

BREAKING: Judge Chutkan GRANTS the preliminary injunction sought by the Climate United Fund over the Greenhouse Gas Reduction Fund monies held by Citibank via grants the Trump admin has sought to terminate.

If evolution feels too controversial for scientists to publish papers on...

BREAKING from @science.org: The Trump admin is seeking to kill nearly all climate research at NOAA, its climate science agency. Its near-final budget proposal would end all NOAA research labs, academic institutes, and regional climate centers. And it wants to fully end the NOAA Research division.

Why did one of Sacramento's top Democrats just ram a bill through the California Assembly that would put a six-year pause on new clean energy rules for homes? I try to answer that head-scratching question in my latest column for @latimes.com: www.latimes.com/environment/...

NEW: Judge Chutkan has blocked the EPA from terminating grants for climate programs held by Citibank, saying the Trump administration failed to abide by legal procedures and provided no evidence of impropriety. ecf.dcd.uscourts.gov/cgi-bin/show...

“Trump’s EPA is taking us back to a time of unfettered pollution across the nation, leaving every American exposed to toxic chemicals, dirty air and contaminated water,” said Tejada, who now works at the Natural Resources Defense Council. apnews.com/article/trum...

So, this lawsuit filed on Saturday did get a little attention, rightly on the merits — about a climate group suing over money the Trump administration is trying to keep from them — but it's important for at least two other reasons. www.nytimes.com/2025/03/08/c...

Not an exaggeration to say this was pound-for-pound the most effective piece of US public diplomacy in China. Twitter was blocked, but U.S. embassy pollution tweets forced Beijing to start publishing its own pollution data, which fed public outrage. Result: millions breathing vastly less toxic air

A clear summary of the deteriorating operating context in the US, which also applies to non-profit organizations and foundations.

Beautiful trouble! Distress flags hung from iconic sites in National Parks across the country including Arches, Yosemite, Joshua Tree, and Rocky Mountain, as part of a US-wide day of action to protest reckless cuts and firing of federal employees at National Parks.

How it started / How it’s going.

Kudos to @jpalfrey.bsky.social and the MacArthur Foundation for stepping up at this critical moment. Increasing foundation giving to fill the gap left by the broken promises and breached contracts of federal funding shows true leadership and compassion. #belovedcommunity apnews.com/article/maca...

Imagine deliberately taking away civil rights protections from your own constituents, the people you were elected to serve and protect.

Seeing piece after piece in the DC sheets about mounting economic uncertainty. They're saying it implicitly by what they're discussing. But note that the editors are really struggling with the fact they can't bring themselves to say that Trump is tanking the economy.

WASHINGTON (AP) - Most drastic cut in spending by US consumers in three years last month despite decline in inflation.

For comparison, Atlanta's prior forecast was +2.3%.

NEW: Indiana already has stringent voter ID rules... & the GOP is advancing a bill right now to strip university IDs from the list of options you can use. This would make it much harder for students to vote. At polling site at IU Bloomington, 2/3rds of voters in November used their student IDs.

A former Goldman Sachs analyst and son of a private equity billionaire has ambitions to control some of USAID’s roughly $40 billion budget and apply more of a “pro-market” approach to supporting development in other countries.

NEW: Trump says that EPA Secretary Lee Zeldin plans to cut 65% of the workforce there. The EPA has roughly 16,000 employeees. Cutting 65% would be more than 10,000 positions.

Most of EPA's IRA grant programs are unfrozen now. We were just about to publish a piece saying that only the Greenhouse Gas Reduction Fund programs were still inaccessible when I heard from Solar for All recipients that they were able to draw down their grants. Anybody know what happened?
