If you take the time to read anything in its entirety this week, let it be “On Organizing” by @theradr.bsky.social - Gave me some much needed hope this morning and some resources and ideas for what’s next.

Nothing like a winter sunset 🌅

i am going to put a finer point on this: executive orders are not laws. and they certainly are not royal decrees. they are interpretations of existing law for the purposes of enforcement. the fact that so many people are treating them as laws is actually driving me a bit insane.

There’s a failure point in ecological systems in which everything seems to work fine…until it doesn’t. You can identify warning signs and detect symptoms of pending collapse, but everything within the system keeps trucking along…until it can’t.

what we’re seeing is that the courts are willing to rule against the government on certain things but there’s no one to actually enforce it.

Here are some nice mushrooms

If most folks supported Project 2025, Republicans would put all of this to a vote, rather than forcing it through with Executive Orders. If most folks supported Project 2025, Trump would not have tried to distance himself from it and lie that he was not associated with it. They lie. They all lie.

But wait I was told it was just about fairness in sports and children making "life altering" health decisions before they're ready

AND IT’S ILLEGAL FOLKS: “None of the funds appropriated in this title may be used to modify or implement any change to the indirect cost rates applied to grants & contracts funded by the NIH w/o the prior approval of the Committees on Appropriations of the House of Representatives & the Senate.” 1/

Wrote up just how *actually evil* the demands from the Trump admin to NCMEC are and how they will *absolutely* lead to children dying. From the cultists who insisted they wanted to "save the children" to literally killing them deserves to be called out: www.techdirt.com/2025/02/07/m...

Major breaking trans news: The States of Washington, Minnesota, and Oregon have sued the Trump administration to block it from enforcing a national gender affirming care ban for those under 19 years of age. This is the second major lawsuit over Trump's trans ban EO. Docs to come.

"As he and his team — most notably Elon Musk — run roughshod over legal and ethical boundaries, it’s been hard not to notice how unprepared the system is for an internal threat," @pbump.com writes. wapo.st/4hqEujA

sorry i've been so testy lately. it's just because of every single thing in the entire world

Remember. It’s never: We fight for (these people) because maybe we’re more at risk if we don’t. No more Niemölling. We fight because they are coming for anyone. Every single person matters. Each and every human being’s life and safety is worth the fight.

the only people who benefit from this are child predators and i'd like dem officials to say so into a microphone

Elephant calf update: very baby

…Commander Vimes didn’t like the phrase ‘The innocent have nothing to fear’, believing the innocent had everything to fear, mostly from the guilty but in the longer term even more from those who say things like ‘The innocent have nothing to fear’… - Terry Pratchett, Snuff

SCOOP: The US Treasury claimed a DOGE's Marco Elez didn’t have ‘write access,’ when he actually did. Sources tell WIRED that his ability to alter code controlling trillions in federal spending was rescinded, days after officials said it didn't exist.

Snowy Witch Hazel I'm under its spell -- last one, I swear! 😂 #flowers #bloomscrolling #droplets #garden #macro #photography

can't wait to see Susan Collins' reaction when judges Susan Collins voted to confirm uphold the illegal actions of executive branch officials Susan Collins voted to confirm on the rationale that their illegal actions will be blocked by the judges Susan Collins voted to confirm.

Scapegoat the already marginalized, demonize minority populations to start encroaching on power over the entire populace, it’s all 💯 by the book.

not sure i like where any of this is going

The United States Military Academy has just eliminated all Cadet clubs and activities for POC. Most of these have existed for decades like the Society of Black Engineers. They were there when I was a Cadet in 1987. All of the religious ones remain. This isn’t DEI. It’s white Christian Nationalism.

Well, this was the most harrowing fucking thing I've ever had to work on, and I'm just the damn lawyer. Can't imagine the client living it, and it's a goddamn privilege to represent her. DO NOT READ THIS unless you can handle details of some truly vile sexual abuse by Neil Gaiman.

Senator Andy Kim just went to the USAID building, talked to the security guard there to confirm employees are being barred entry, and then did a press gaggle right there in front to call it out. This is doing something. This is making an effort on messaging. Other Democratic lawmakers: take notes.

Again, this isn't funny & it would have immediately ended any previous presidency in the post-WWII era. It's a direct violation of our NATO & UN obligations & obscene in a moment where 🇷🇺 is occupying 20% of 🇺🇦 & denying the sovereignty of another country. bsky.app/profile/mcop...

So, Mexico has agreed to do what it is already doing? www.reuters.com/article/worl...

Good. Amplify defiance.

If citizens would like to peaceably protest outside US AID today.

Right now we’re witnessing the difference between authority and power. Elon Musk does not have the legal authority to do any of the things he is doing. He is not authorized to shut down USAID. He is not authorized to take over OPM. He has no legal authority to access all our data and payments.

Canada's so mad at us they're willing to go sober in February. Damn.

"We must do what we can to stay clear and connected and whole, to give ourselves both interpersonal supports and space for our inner life so that we can see today, and tomorrow, and the day after that through with integrity and bravery." thank you @theradr.bsky.social 🙏✨

YAYYYYY.

it is extremely important that we figure out how to get normies to understand that their car sauce got exponsive and toilet paper became a luxury good because trump unilaterally decided canada should be the 51st state, a thing no one asked for and that he cannot make happen even through trade war

still think folks are missing woods for trees on security. very big problem: people plugging random shit into federal systems somehow even bigger problem: entire federal workforce being demoralized somehow even biggest problem: entire world's private sector deciding to buy not-american in future

Today is Retraction Day, when we observe the anniversary of the retraction (Feb. 2, 2010) of the fraudulent paper that purported to show a link between vaccines and autism. 🧪#medsky

You’d think that the Senate, famously described as a place where everyone looks in the mirror and sees a future president, would have one ambitious Democrat who would see their opportunity here.

BREAKING: Harbor seal pupping season is ON in La Jolla, California Cuteness to be added to thread.🦑

Trump censoring not just what researchers can work on in the future, but also the publication of past research already completed.

I do want to keep pointing out that there are hard core conservatives, including Leonard fucking Leo, opposing the RFK Jr nomination, we believe their coalition is fracturable. It's important to call GOP senators.

Did you know? In 1968, 24 Black men in Pittsburgh revolutionized emergency medicine. The Freedom House Ambulance Service was established to provide emergency medical care to underserved Black neighborhoods—creating the world’s first paramedics.

grind the government to a halt stop voting for any nominees, object to every unanimous consent, do a rotating talking filibuster on the senate floor going over the transformation of the United States into Elon Musk and Donald Trump’s personal fiefdom act like what’s happening is happening
