Pupdate.

lol

Fables really had me believing people would be out here learning the error of their ways from doing bad things

This is premeditated murder.

Dishwasher delivery/take away. One of the men only spoke Spanish. I said, "Gracias por su ayuda," and he broke into a huge grin and laughed when I didn't understand his answer. The other man put the whole dead dishwasher on his back and carried it away. I don't think that's OSHA approved.

Current situation.

"From the way folks have been talking, you’d think everyone falls into two buckets: those who voted against the mayor who promised to blow up the city and those who voted for the mayor who promised to blow up the city."

"Illinois nazis. I hate Illinois nazis."

If you're enraged by showing consideration to those different from you, the problem AIN'T those different from you.

Pedant hole of the day: Censure and censor are two different things.

We could just be reading great books, watching good movies, and eating fruit. Instead we have to survive/fight miserable power hoarders. What a waste of limited time.

Sunshine boy.

Two of my prized possessions are a copy of Tibetan Peach Pie, signed by Tom Robbins as a wedding gift to my husband and me (rolling out in love), and a copy of Skinny Legs and All, signed with encouragement for me to run for president someday. Maybe I will; I can't be worse than the guy we have now.

Dirt dog.

Making a list of nonsensical arguments that people have actually made against density and this is currently at the top of the list.

Normalizing spelling out what people actually mean when they cite DEI rather than letting them hide behind the safe cover of a euphemism that's been sapped of meaning

Are the next 4 years really going to be logging on everyday to sentences like "a 19 year old doge intern called Big Balls has your social security number" because I'm already at capacity for this sort of thing

so he’s purging the FBI, he dumped out all of california’s water, elon musk logged into the government’s money computer, and the trade war officially starts tomorrow? is that all i missed today?

Use a Star Trek gift to describe how you feel.

I can't recall a single point in my life where I've been scared of a trans person. Unfortunately, I can think of many, many times that I've been scared FOR trans people.

New friends, maybe.

Tonight's rabbit hole: The Keep Washington Working Act, a law that protects the rights of Washington residents, including immigrants. It went into effect on May 21, 2019. The law limits the involvement of local law enforcement in enforcing federal immigration laws.

Yesterday's rabbit hole: The history and usage of TERF, including, for some reason, TERF bangs.

A secondary rabbit hole for the day: The Smoot-Hawley Tariff Act of 1930. The Smoot-Hawley act raised tariffs on imported goods and was intended to help American farmers, but it ended up making the Great Depression worse.

Today's rabbit hole: flamingos are extremophiles. They can survive in extreme environments that would kill most other animals, including extreme temperatures and altitudes.

No parking.

i want to be exactly rich enough to buy a spacious, perfectly organized kitchen, where i’m not forced to stack all my pots and pans in a psychologically unmanageable way. and no richer

Tonight's rabbit hole: The Gish gallop. A rhetorical debate technique in which a person attempts to overwhelm an opponent by presenting an excessive number of arguments, with no regard for their accuracy or strength, with a rapidity that makes it impossible to address them in the time available.

I promise no pictures without alt text, but I also promise that the alt text will have too many commas.

Today's rabbit hole: birthright citizenship and the United States vs Wong Kim Ark
