Brexit costs and red tape denying NHS cancer patients life-saving drugs, report finds www.independent.co.uk/news/uk/poli...

It’s extraordinary that so much media still reports on Trump with the old, redundant tools of the trade. He lied about Ukraine, then he tried to extort Ukraine, and having failed he threatens to walk away from Ukraine. The idea that he was ever going to do anything unwelcome to Putin is ridiculous.

It's long past time to ban insider trading in Congress.

They celebrated 10% tariff in the UK vs 20% in the EU as a Brexit benefit Now, both UK and EU have the same 10% Poof! The benefit of Brexit is gone

Starmer's speech is strong on diagnosis. Weak on prescription. Because Britain just isn't economically powerful enough on its own to offer one.

That's the language of a doomsday cult leader

It was extraordinary. There is, for example, no earthly reason why a little-known radio presenter on a commercial station should have become a national rallying point for Brexit reality simply by telling the obvious truth. (He did have to step down from occasionally presenting Newsnight, though.) 😉

It's like someone turned an angry toddler into a super-powered giant and we all have to pray we survive.

We were lucky to have this guy in a position of authority during Brexit, doing what he could to limit the damage. Canadians would be lucky to get him as prime minister. Let much the perfect candidate for this moment.

During World War 2 Adolf Hitler refused to let the Red Cross have access to his concentration camps, because he didn't want them documenting what was happening.

Wow. #HandsOff rally in St. Paul, Minnesota is massive!

This is Utah in case anyone’s wondering how pissed off people are. I have never seen anything like this.

Mark Kelly: "This is not surprising. Here's a guy who told Americans to inject bleach into their bodies, who sent a mob to Capitol Hill. And now I think it's fair to say he stands out as singlehandedly destroying more wealth with his bad decisions than anybody else who has ever lived on this planet"

BBC reports that Reform candidate Stephen Hartley standing in Oxford has stepped down following revelation that in 2022 he called Jimmy Savile a "working class hero" on twitter. Er... it's A LOT worse than that! This is full blown "Dolphin Square" and "Nick" territory

obscene lying from Stephen Miller on Fox News as he claims the economy was in "depression" thanks to Biden when Trump took office (the American economy was in fact the envy of the world three months ago ... )

It's extraordinary how many wise people still don't realise that much of the right-wing media and political establishment can *never* turn on Trump simply, and only, because he has made base bigotry mainstream & 'acceptable' again. 'Anti-woke' was always about being pro-racism, lies & misogyny.

Trump is learning what Truss learned before him: that the market is the last bastion of commonly-accepted truth, which all sides accept as empirically real open.substack.com/pub/iandunt/...

'The only thing Trump understands is brute force and bullying.’ Caller Leanne explains to @mrjamesob.bsky.social why the UK should follow the example of Canada and stop buying products from the US.

One of the many great paradoxes in all of this is that despite millions of Americans believing and being told otherwise, the US economy kind of boomed under Biden. But in classic fake hero style, Trump got them to believe otherwise and portrayed himself as the white Knight who'd save the day...

I needed to hear this. Maybe you do too. “Fear has a way of being contagious… courage is also contagious.” — Kamala Harris Man, I miss her.

From my perspective… Trump’s tariffs give the EU a *huge* opportunity… Namely to retaliate against tariffs on EU goods with tariffs on US services- in particular, those that have political & financial power within Europe. it can be phrased as a financial retaliation, but its value is *much* more.

‘Tell me what’s gone well with Brexit. I’ll wait.’ ‘I can’t think of an example.’ Caller Paul and @mrjamesob.bsky.social's debate on Trump’s tariffs descends into Brexit.

JPMorgan now forecasting a 60% chance of US recession this year.

Carney: Canada must be looking elsewhere to expand our trade, to build our economy, and to protect our sovereignty. Canada is ready to take a leadership role in building a coalition of likeminded countries who share our values… If the US no longer wants to lead, Canada will

I don't recall woke ever tanking the markets like this.

If Donald Trump is your greatest ally. You don't have any allies.

Sometimes politics is simple. A man who speaks like an idiot will do idiotic things. That's really the sum total of the political analysis you need to understand what's happening today. But political commentators and investment advisers sought to make it more complicated.

'If the media dedicated a fraction of the energy to explaining economic impacts of Brexit, that it's displayed in explaining the potential economic impacts of Trump's tariffs...nobody would be as daft as David.' @mrjamesob.bsky.social sends his first texter of the day to Idiots' Corner.

I had this mad dream that the President of the United States of America tried to collapse the global economy by announcing tariffs on a bunch of uninhabited islands calculated by running Wikipedia information on trade deficits through ChatGPT. I must stop eating cheese before bedtime.

Yup. It feels cruel to deny deluded Brexiters their tiny sliver of a ‘win’ but, on the other hand, fuck ‘em. Weakening a country *before* an attack like this is an act of obvious treachery. We would, by any measure, be better off *in* the the EU *with* the 20% basic tariff rate.

Those bastards penguins have been getting away with it this whole time. They can't fool us with that cutesy monogamous waddling crap. America is going to tariff the shit out of them.

Britain's wrongest man rides again.

Bloody hell. What a point.

Wasn't it a trade war that exacerbated the 30s depression and fuelled Fascism across the world? Just wondering why the Nazi salutes are so fashionable these days

There will be individuals making an absolute killing out of this. Just like Brexit.

Paul Nowak General Secretary @tuc.org.uk 👏

This is what happens when people speak up.

I may be tired and a little hoarse, but as I said again and again on the Senate floor, this is a moment where we cannot afford to be silent, when we must speak up.

"A group of prominent authors including Richard Osman, Kazuo Ishiguro, Kate Mosse and Val McDermid have signed an open letter calling on the UK government to hold Meta accountable over its use of copyrighted books to train artificial intelligence" www.theguardian.com/books/2025/m...

The thing about all these pieces complaining about Marine Le Pen's conviction is that not a single one of them bothers to explain why someone found guilty of embezzling millions of Euros from public funds should be allowed to get away with it

Was able to speak for a while this morning as @booker.senate.gov enters Hour 13 of holding the Senate floor. With two glasses of water and sheer determination, he’s telling the world that America is fighting back against this President. Go Cory!

The Department of Government Efficiency, for example
