So I think we’re both close — there aren’t very many but they’re pretty much all in the SEC and Big 10
comment in response to

Sure, it’s not necessarily a bad idea but if we’re talking SEC and Big 10 it’s universities putting money on the line rather than saving money, which might actually make it a better idea though

For the teams in the major conferences this would increase their budget shortfall

It’s a good question and I would not have much faith in my own concrete answers, just hoping the people who actually do know how to run a university (not me) are in the right frame of mind haha
comment in response to

I try not to learn how the university is run but our budget is pretty responsive to the budget of all of arts and sciences and the university at large, as opposed to just what we bring in

Not to me a doomer but it’s good to be aware that one possibility is that universities will be under attack from now on but what we do is good for the world and we still need to do it.

*don't want to imply
comment in response to

I think probably the green lantern critique was wrong on other grounds but the clarification is useful if you do want to imply that these in fact are acceptable presidential actions and Obama etc were naive for not employing them, which a person might (wrongly) have taken from this post
comment in response to

This is clarifying. I think advocates of the green lantern critique must have understood that the President can do more stuff if he simply breaks the law, purges agencies, etc. So we can probably assume people meant within the bounds of acceptable presidential actions.
comment in response to
post
I think the green lantern critique implicitly builds in a commitment to democratic government and rule of law which isn't particularly silly
comment in response to
post
Struggling to interpret this because you seem to be implying that previous presidents should have just done a bunch of illegal stuff which I doubt is what you mean to imply
