If your goal was to destroy the United States, could you do it more effectively than Trump? Blocking federal scientists from participating in IPCC processes is among the most minor of maliciously destructive actions. www.cnn.com/2025/02/21/c...

Here's video of Steve Bannon doing a Sieg Heil today at CPAC. It is what it is and it's what Bannon intended. Don't let yourself be gaslit.

‼️The US-based @ipcc.bsky.social technical support unit (TSU) for Working Group 3 Co-Chairs has been terminated, and the US won’t be attending next week’s IPCC meeting where the AR7 chapter outlines will be approved. More by @afreedma.bsky.social here:

In future generations, when your children and grandchildren look back on this moment, they are not going to ask about the price of eggs. They are going to ask you what you did. Not what you felt. Not what you paid. But what you did. And I want to be able to say I did everything I possibly could.

I didn't realize at the time how prescient this "a lot of crazy that is about to happen" comment was.

What a disgrace. Bezos and the newspaper he has destroyed should be grateful that anyone thinks it’s still worthwhile to buy ad space from them. *This* is how democracy dies.

In the coming weeks, a lot of slow-on-the uptake folks are going to begin belatedly realizing Trump is both an inept moron and a dangerous autocrat. Our great civic challenge in these trying times will be calmly welcoming them aboard instead of primal-screaming in their faces.

We need to be more willing to talk more openly about the impending dictatorship of malicious fools.

I just found out that my first book 📗, LAB GIRL 🌱🌿🌳, was challenged by a parent and subsequently removed from the shelves of the library at Walworth High School in Elkhorn, Wisconsin. So I decided to write a 🧵 on book 📚 #censorship 🚫 in American 🇺🇸 schools 🚸 1/n

Opinion Corporate Media Failing to Call This What It Is: A Coup If this is not a coup d’etat, I don’t know what is. It is not "taking sides" to say so. Rather, it is accurately describing the dire emergency America now faces. Robert Reich Feb 14, 2025 www.commondreams.org/opinion/corp...

It was super-fun to work with Alissa Ganter on this paper. Substantial amounts of potential wind and solar generation is being curtailed in Europe. This generation capacity could potentially be used to make hydrogen, substituting for hydrogen now made with fossil gas. pubs.acs.org/doi/full/10....

Detail of 1569 world map by Gerardus Mercator showing the Gulf of Mexico. The rapidity with which over 450 years of historical tradition is abandoned is both disturbing and astounding. en.m.wikipedia.org/wiki/Mercato...

Unless Ralph Keeling's team gets some funding, you won't be able to see this record for much longer. The continuation of the iconic Keeling curve is under threat.

Can anyone recommend a map service that doesn't suck up to tyrants?

"Every time you say something negative about somebody or something, you turn a potential ally into a potential enemy." I was taught there are basically two appropriate responses to what someone says: 1. Praise, or 2. Ask questions. It is time to move beyond asking questions. We need some answers.

Last night I found out that the NSF math postdoctoral fellowship I applied for is being deleted because it does not comply with Trump’s executive orders on DEI in the federal government. I’m going to answer some FAQs and share some thoughts about this ordeal in this thread 1/n

Is climate change accelerating? Maybe, maybe not. Time will tell. In the meantime, let's reduce greenhouse gas emissions. www.salon.com/2025/02/06/a... iopscience.iop.org/article/10.1...
