It is less than it has been in quite some time. And while I do believe it is important to give back as TO’s coaches and other important community members, they aren’t going to necessarily be bringing in tons of new members to revitalize the scene. Only Nintendo can really do that through updates.

So I do agree that the scene isn’t going anywhere in the short term, or maybe even for the next few years. However, I think it is going to spiral lower as people begin to get bored and want to do more and different things. You can see it now with the amount of people who are doing tournaments

Only incentive to keep putting in hours, then that number is going to get smaller and smaller. While people love the game, as I do as well, that love comes with a sacrifice. I recognize that I have spent hundreds of hours playing this game, instead of spending time with family, that hurts me.

However, at some point people are going to have to make decisions. Do I spend 100 more hours to reach the top of the leaderboards and improve, or do I try and get a job, or spend time with family? There are going to be people who will put in hours, that I agree with, however when motivation is the

Ok I agree with you on most parts, yes people sink thousands of hours on the game simply to improve, I am someone who has and still will. The content cycle update part is a shallow reason, however, if people are feeling demotivated, like right now, they will just stop playing.

So to summarize, and I said this in the original post, but the TOs are doing an amazing job and are keeping this scene alive. However, the structure that Nintendo has around the game makes motivation hard to continue to push to the top and just plain annoying to stay at the top.

In other esports, people push to the top to make money and get signed by orgs. In splatoon, there are very few successful stories of orgs and even less that are interested in splatoon because of how it is structured. Orgs will only invest if there is money to be made, and there isn’t bc of Nintendo.

And from what I have seen, people are just beginning to see that even if they do get really good, that doesn’t mean your future is brighter in the game, it just means you have a less goals and less competition at your level. I think there isn’t much we can do because of Nintendo.

It’s not any of our faults per se, but just how the system is. We’ve been playing in a very similar meta for nearly a year now and people are bored. Tournaments like low ink that used to get hundreds of signups every cycle I believe got under 100 last cycle, even though they moved to sendou.ink

Low and mid level are being fueled by goals and motivation, and they still might have a lot left, but not all of them are going to make it to the top. Just ask yourself how do we keep going long term. I’m not saying it is going to die overnight, but we are on a decline, that is a fact

I agree with the first part, but my only question where do we go from here? Esports is dying and they have money, we don’t. Top level is running on the fumes of barely any motivation and some of them have been grind for closing in on a decade.

People like the TO’s have given us reasons to keep pushing by having tournaments, and dealing with our bs. I’m grateful for every single TO because they are the primary reason I keep playing. Because if it weren’t for tournaments and the comp scene, I wouldn’t play.

And low level has all the resources and ability to improve, but what’s the point in the long run? I am in the same spot, I want to get better, I want to reach the top. But when I do, what happens then, I go through the same process as top level players are going through right now.

All I’m saying is that the top have very little motivation to grind everyday to get better, when there is no new weapons or stages to prepare for, a clear update cycle that doesn’t drastically change the meta, and no significant prizes to grind for besides sendou badges.

I guess I’ll elaborate. Nintendo has stacked the cards against us, from the rules of what tournaments can and cannot do, to capping the progression of the game for no reason. This along side the fact that there is only mentality and goal achieving that is pushing people to get better.

The TO’s like yourself are the only reason this scene is as good as it is and has lasted this long. Nothing but respect and love for yall

I play because it fun and there is a goal that I want to accomplish. I have put in the time and effort so I want to say I accomplished this goal before I stop. It is fun, and I do love winning. But I play to accomplish goals
