I might be slightly biased... but this is probably the best set of tutorial-based courses you will ever encounter!

Wondering if your study section cancelled? I update this sheet daily. As of today, 56/124 study sections that should have met since Jan 2, 2025 have "not met as scheduled." docs.google.com/spreadsheets...

Article in WaPo today on the Federal Register ban. If ayone has a gift link to share I’d be much obliged! www.washingtonpost.com/science/2025...

This was supposed to be a post about my lab's first funding of the year, a diversity supplement to fund our amazing research technician. The award never arrived. Now it's a post about the value of diversity and trying to persevere in these dark times. devinenilab.org/news/diversi...

1/5 of my fellow Germans elected the far right (* the ones most European far right parties consider as too far right) - most important 4/5 of my fellow Germans DECIDED FOR DEMOCRACY!!!

I remember this evening 3 years ago clearly. I was reading twitter and by midnight it became clear that the war was imminent. Woke up after a few hours just to catch the end of Putin’s diabolical speech. One of the worst days of my life till now. The war is in Ukraine but it’s against all of us.

Principal researchers inside and outside academia: do you know groups self-organizing to protect academic science in the US? How can we connect and mobilize? Could you share your thoughts? 🧬🔬🔭🧪🧠🤖

Some non-Americans are expressing a sense of helplessness watching the US. My personal recommendation to those feeling that way is to work to steel up the science infrastructure, funding, and culture in your own country. We need everyone to harbor knowledge and incubate progress while the US can't!

Dear Germany (and every other country). If Viktor Orbán likes a political party, you’re 100% guaranteed that it will be awful for you. If Elon Musk likes the same party, you’re 200% guaranteed.

Becoming more glad by the day that I have been working to exit cloud services for awhile. Local storage of everything you use the corporate cloud for is possible with a personal cloud system. It takes time and requires new tools and maybe the hardest part, new habits.

The Trump Administration is maintaining the NIH grant freeze despite lawsuits challenging the order, a Nature article reported today. Science funding in the US is already lagging, leaving researchers in limbo. www.nature.com/articles/d41...

I don't know what to say anymore. Imagine being Ukrainian tonight. 🇺🇦

Nothing else to say.

#Bundestagswahl #Wahl #Briefwahl

Any suggestions for tutorials/blogs that go each of the different families in glmmTMB (e.g., gamma vs. negative binomial vs beta vs lognormal). I find resources with one or two but curious if there has been anything crafted to be paired with this package Would be useful for a lab cheat sheet...

Musk's censorship algorithm on Twitter reduced our audience by about 95% since he bought it. So we moved over to blue sky. Help us build another great following right here where the skies are clear and the water is fine ;-) Please do Follow Retweet & repeat

The potential repercussions go beyond decimating US biomedical research. Many of the best clinical specialty departments (trauma units, neurology, etc) are in academic med centers and are money losers. They rely on overheads from NIH to keep things going. This is bad.

ok, so basically I'm trying to make this post go viral.

Nearly 250,000 people in Berlin showed up to protest fascism and the Musk backed AfD party.

JAMA Viewpoint: “Regardless of the popularity or powerful interests behind a policy, the responsibility of the profession is to speak out when the science is clear that it will threaten health or safety.”

When is indeed the March for Science?

The entire website for the NIH Office of Research on Women's Health (ORWH) is very nearly stripped bare. This is so, so devastating. orwh.od.nih.gov/research/fun...

This may be a good time to remind yourself that when you store your information 'in the cloud' all that means is that you're handing it over to some other person(s) to store on their computer. Ask yourself who are they, what are their values, what obligations do they have?

As we watch all mention of diversity actively get scrubbed from the NIH website in real time it's important to know that, we were not taking over anything, we were just trying to exist. - Only 2% of NIH R01 grants are awarded to Black investigators. The goal is total erasure/elimination.

My occasional reminder to folks on tenure and promotion committees that there will be a cohort of people whose early careers were defined entirely by the pandemic and *waves vaguely* this nonsense, and it *will* impact their productivity. It can't not.
