You aren’t the only on. The poor library staff - who this city council has consistently attacked - are being inundated with callers thinking they are behind the plaque. Same thing for the Friends of the Library. So the Council wins again.

Chris’ speech was moving but this lady really got to the point in an epic, visual way. fb.watch/xTwA7OSTpS/?...

HB residents (of all political stripes) have been fighting back against the book banning by City Council. The MAGA plaque is retribution for our effort. We gathered enough signatures to put 2 library initiatives on the ballot but they are trying to intimidate signers. www.latimes.com/socal/daily-...

Maybe the Library of Alexandria would be a good analogy

It’s like book burning but worse.

The plaque is actually retribution against the library and its supporters for not rolling over and allowing books be removed and staffing be outsourced to a private company. The HBPL is a great library and continues to serve our diverse community well.

This is also a big “FU” to the volunteers with the Huntington Beach Friends of the Library who have donated literally millions of dollars via book sales and fundraising events and given hundreds of thousands of volunteer hours in adult literacy, citizenship and more because they have spoken out.

Has anyone checked voter registration? Are people from one party being fired more than others?

Bathrooms for all, meeting place for seniors, special needs groups and stay-at-home parents, printing & photocopy center, the last “video” store, early-childhood learning center, volunteering for middle and high school students, mental escape via books for anyone, a warm or cool place to simply be.

Book bans are not an attack on certain books but a larger war on the library as an institution that promotes empathy and access to information for all.

When are MAGA flags going to be required at federal buildings? Our local library commission (in CALIFORNIA!) just voted to affix a MAGA-themed plaque to our library for its 50th anniversary. How is this not fascism?

See: Huntington Beach. City Council passed ordinance to form a “parent/guardian review board” to ban books. Citizens gather enough signatures to put a repeal on the ballot. City Council responds by sending out random email asking citizens if they were “lied to”. www.latimes.com/socal/daily-...

Don’t you think a lot of the actual congress members actually want white Christian nationalism at this point? They aren’t just afraid of Trump. They want this.

The attacks on libraries comes at a time when children’s book publishers have been filling these gaps.

Finally! I always hoped Disney would crack down as the name was taken from their IP but this works…

But will it be refashioned?

Lil Marco. You have to admit, it’s a good nickname.

I got really broken up lines. Hard to hear the message, for both DC and CA offices.
