Hahaha I think I need to designate it as a home and knitting read. Gosh it's so dumb in the most hilarious way π€ͺ

There's definitely some strong Ice Planet Barbarian vibes but less cringey? Like it feels way more self-aware.
It's just so damn silly! I will admit I am a little nervous about the spicy scenes but at least I know there are aliens involved?
I hate being surprised by a weird "member" lol

OMG You won't regret it. I received a promo copy of the audiobook through @libro.fm and their librarian program.
I am loving every second of it so far!

I haven't read any of her other ones but when I saw this popup in a publisher's catalogue, I squealed!
The grumpy talking lion is probably my favourite so far.

Also, I like making digital marble backgrounds for the books I read and then use them as wallpapers on my phone/iPad.
Here's the full image just in case you'd like it snag it for something too!

Omg! I totally have that pattern on my wishlist! Holy smokes it's gonna be stellar!

I'm not sure if any of what I've said is helpful but I'm rootin' for ya! Whatever you're making is gonna be awesome!

From how you describe the way you do GSRs, I don't think it's any different from what the pattern is saying. The pattern is just phrasing it weirdly.
When I teach knitting workshops, I always describe making the DS as pulling the stitch up so you can see both of its legs π

Oh! I think they are describing the same thing you are doing just in a kinda convoluted way π΅βπ« Have you knit it through to see if it works the way you'd normally do it?
Sometimes patterns make my brain creak like there's rusty gears in there lol

And speaking of strange, beautiful movement, when was the last time you watched any Bob Fosse?
I think this is how I'm going to walk into work tomorrow ;)

But I should add that what I really loved about this book is how well Borison does dialogue. I love character-driven fiction with lots of banter and conversation, but if it isn't done well then I will likely DNF it. That wasn't the case with "First-Time Caller".
Gah! Just so good!

Overall, I thought it was fantastic! I gave it a 5-star rating in Storygraph :)
I was worried at first that it would be just a reimagining of Sleepless in Seattle but it was much more than that. I laughed, I sobbed toward the end, and there's a makeout session in a closet that's... WOOO! HOLY!

And I have no idea why I started writing about all this but here we are!
Nothing like falling down a deep introspection spiral on a Saturday night π
I think it's about time to make a cup of herbal tea.

And a decade or so later, that textile nerd started working in public libraries and eventually went back to grad school to become a librarian.
After 13 years at the library, it feels like I have come full circle to my teen self as I am now responsible for our digital collections.

I didn't really do any textile crafts growing up, like not really, but in a weird way I knew the value of making something by hand. That expressive teenage coding nerd evolved into a textile artist, obsessed with subverting traditional hand knitting practices.

I almost went into IT back in 2000. It was a new department at the University I was thinking of going to but my grades weren't great in high school math (I barely passed) and the Uni rejected my application.
So I went to art school instead, ending up with BFA and MFA in Fibre/Textiles.

I was so passionate about craft, the maker's hand, the joy of coding complex framesets and CSS in Notepad. All that sickening sincerity at 17 years old, like it makes my teeth hurt just thinking about it.
It also kinda makes me want to cry?
Oh gosh, I got feels now. Shit!

This is the part of my neurodivergent brain that I have difficulty reconciling with. It is a fine line between hyper focus and hyper fixation.
One is great for getting things done, the other is responsible for my IBS, lack of appetite and incredibly stiff back.
Oof!

Sometimes I just cast on and then measure after the fact, but for sweaters I typically always swatch. Then I steam the swatch!

Yeah, I miss TinyLetter! I am poking around a bit at different options and Pencilbooth looks promising?

Yes! Like we're returning to the old school personal websites from the 90s or something.
I just want to have a Livejournal again or like a Diaryland account.

I knew where all the cool surfaces were at my old work for that exact reason.
I hope the panic passed through without much reverb, if that makes any sense. That shit isn't fun. π

Thank you! I have a friend who has a background in professional baking and she's helping me a bit with tweaking my technique. Bread is difficult to make at this elevation so I am pretty stoked to make something that isn't a solid brick of yeasty gluten π

So far, I am really enjoying this read. For some reason it's reminding me of Hot Fuzz but without the comedic and overthetop death scenes.
Speaking of hot fuzz, here is some progress of my 'waveless' Waves of Change pullover I am knitting while I read. Only 1 sleeve to go!

Omg that's intense! I feel like there's a sweet but evil hairless cat that lives there.
How many very manicured goatees did you see? π

Omg the first time I used this, which I feel was pre-pandemic, nothing was translated so I just hit random buttons until something worked π€ͺ
