Seems like a good time to post these links again. Dr. Alan Hart spent the late '20 through the '50s organizing tuberculosis screening clinics in small communities and promoting public health education. He was also transgender. historylink.org/File/22896 historylink.org/File/22895

Not surprised that it's community colleges that are fighting back. Community colleges serve the greatest number of people facing systemic barriers. A large percentage of community college students are the first in their family to attend college.

Thank you to Margaret Bikman of the Salish Current for featuring the latest anthology I'm in: CRIMES AGAINST NATURE, edited by @roblopresti.bsky.social! #amwriting salish-current.org/2024/11/19/t...

The employee is Gavin Kliger. He’s been named by multiple large news orgs. Not sure why NBC won’t.

These are Fort Campbell-based 101st Airborne Division soldiers escorting the Little Rock Nine in 1957. Fort Campbell is erasing *its own* history.

Our team reviewed the entire DOGE website. Nothing they have identified constitutes evidence of fraud or corruption—both of which are crimes. Feel free to audit us. The funds were allotted by Congress, and OIGs regularly reviewed expenditures for fraud.

I wrote about EIS in Wanderers, and studied them for writing that book, and trust me when I tell you, these are really, really, really not the people you want to lose.

Oh, Andrew, I dare you to staff a coffee shop with white men willing to take the job. Then time them. Make it a race. Hey, even televise it.

insane racism and sexism aside, wild to see someone argue that low-wage jobs are doing DEI hires to promote diversity

AUSA Hagan Scotten, former clerk for John Roberts, really put some mustard on his resignation letter.

Purely coincidental, Reuters won a Pulitzer Prize for this investigation into Elon Musk: www.reuters.com/investigates...

I mean... it doesn't get better than @elienyc.bsky.social Have kids? MUST READ Don't have kids? STILL MUST READ Wake up to the future, Ladies and Gents

Very cool. Here's the paper: dx.doi.org/10.1038/s415... arXiv: dx.doi.org/10.48550/arx... #Science #Astronomy #Physics #Cosmology 🧪🔭⚛️

The Consumer Financial Protection Bureau literally exists to protect consumers from predatory financial institutions. It's returned over $21 billion to 205 million consumers. The sole result of this move is that Americans will have no recourse when they get screwed over by a bank. Good work Elon 👍

this is the "merit" two-step. first, you strongly imply or state outright that the presence of anyone who isn't a straight, able-bodied white man is unfair "DEI," then you argue that just because an institution is all-male and lily-white doesn't mean there is discrimination. that's just merit!

There is a grand tradition of technologists landing in government and not understanding how it works. That ignorance can be about policy and law, but also about the infrastructure of government tech, and how fragile it all is. @pahlkadot.bsky.social offers an example: www.eatingpolicy.com/p/jed

All these bros conveniently forgetting that the U.S. government was instrumental in creating the Internet through NSF grants to universities and research hubs through the 80s and 90s.

As Trump plans to use Gitmo in his mass deportation scheme, I wrote about how courts have spent decades letting Guantánamo Bay operate in a constitutional no-man’s land, and giving the executive branch leeway to commit & evade responsibility for grave injustices ballsandstrikes.org/law-politics...

mind you, this "doge official" IS A FRESHMAN AT NORTHEASTERN

For context, this is the same $1.3 billion dollar deal they announced back in December during the Biden presidency. Trump set fire to the US' relationship with both Canada and Mexico in return for literally nothing at all.

Any New York jazz historians here? I found this proof photo by my mom at the Village Vanguard in 1941. Even this tiny shot is electric. Ann (or Anna) Robinson apparently only recorded three songs before she was murdered in 1946. #Blacksky myauctionfinds.com/2017/08/16/j... youtu.be/D_wiwpXUrx8

The Trump/Musk plan is to legally target journalists and publications for doing journalism. Even if the legal actions ultimately fail, they’ll bankrupt and smear the journalists and orgs along the way. Years of precedent for this, including Gawker v Hogan, financially backed by Thiel

Some dinosaur tracks on the new light snow this morning. Possibly not a coincidence that our bird feeder is directly above. There were some squirrel prints too, but they weren't as crisp. 🦉

“Your power is relative, but it is real. And if you do not learn to use it, it will be used, against you, and me, and our children. Change did not begin with you, and it will not end with you, but what you do with your life is an absolutely vital piece of that chain.” - Audre Lorde

This is why you don’t surrender in advance. The flagrantly illegal can be stopped. It sucks that it’s falling to ordinary workers, not, say, the police, or Chuck Schumer with an NBC camera crew manning the line. You know, the ppl whose job this actually is. But they can be stopped.

here’s a thing!
