Working with an interdisciplinary team, we have developed a website to communicate how the White House's proposed cuts to health research would cause losses of $16B and 68,500 jobs.
Find out how your community may be impacted.

You might wonder: perhaps the impacts are focused only on a few, potentially 'elite' institutions?
The answer is far different.

The blue areas that are red have other economic values.
But all those deep rural areas that are red rely on this.
I suspect the impact is similar or more red with tariffs, healthcare, and more.
Have you also modelled how many necessary deaths will occur? (Recalling that Trump 1.0 was responsible for >400,000 unnecessary deaths in 2018, 22,000 more in 2019 linked to rollback of environmental regs, and then a bazillion in 2020 because of his failed response to COVID 19)
Hopefully that's clear.
A lot of rural counties will be hit disproportionately hard, but that doesnβt show without any per capita normalization
person in their state so they buy more politicians?
THIS IS What we are allowing T and dumbos to do!!!
We need to pull in all the geniuses who don't normally get deeply involved in politics to beat this.
This is a great start.
Remember--nonviolent protests engaging 3.5% of the population have always brought about about change. April 5 is our 1st big chance! https://handsoff2025.com/?SQF_SOURCE=indivisible

Saving Personal freedoms and vulnerable lives is worth getting a little wet βοΈ.
(And...Where's that $ going instead π€¨)
And think about everyone you know or care about who has, is or could benefit from ongoing medical research.
NONE of our lives are valued by these GOP barbarians.

A pretty useless duo.
Thatβs exactly what states should be doing now.
Don't tell maggots.
Couldn't easily find a repo, so one small feature request: I'd love a congressional district geospatial layer (in addition to county and state) to make it easy to quote an exact cost to the constituents of an individual house rep.

Highlighting important studies that will be suspended due to these cuts could help show whatβs truly at stake.
βIn Massachusetts, the changes to federal funding for research are projected to cause a loss of *$1554 million* for the state economy.
The changes would also result in the loss of approximately *6713 jobs* in your state.β

250 years of progress down the drain. Thanks Republicans.
They're not like us!

For example, the Texas Medical System complex is the largest in the world, and this chart shows the Trump Elon slash & burn robs it of $300-400 million in vital research funding. This is inexcusable and irreparable destruction of scientific progress for decades to come.
We will be bailing this all out in 4 years. It will be economically and socially devastating to this country.
Not to mention Health Care IS the biggest industry we have.
The Universities have done alot to fill in.

Every day I'm thankful to be in the Northeast but who knows how long that will last, blue states have a target on their backs.
Are NY residents morally superior just bc NYC makes the state blue?
Easy to say from afar βall you need to do isβ¦β
Fighting & mostly losing for 30 yrs is exhausting & demoralizingβhence so much voter apathy.
Yet we nearly got Beto elected 2x & then raised record enthusiasm for Kamala, only to get gut punched again.
And thenβ¦we keep fighting.
Australian Univerities are losing US research funding & are having to answer a series of Q's on DEI sent by the US govt, so I'm assuming every OECD country & many others are also losing research funding!!!
I'd still imagine total research funding is in billions in Australia too? But I'm only speculating so I could be totally wrong as I don't know much about that corner of the world.
The loss of funding means lost jobs, stalled innovation, and setbacks in critical fields.
Understanding how the results were calculated and their local impact would be really helpful. Will this info be added in the coming weeks?

1. Is it possible to make the city names appear in white, so they can be more easily read over the red?
2. Can you make an option for cost per capita? The deep red looks to correlate with population centers
