It’s wild how seemingly anyone can just be dogpiled. You don’t even have to have really done anything & people will still hate you. The comments on that recent TikTok are obscene, I can totally relate to that feeling of have hundreds of people making false judgements on your character. Shit sucks.

Yeahhh the first Witcher for sure, I feel like a prerequisite of this niche category is that the voice actors had little direction and had to guess what the words were, I guess elder scrolls does count there too

This applies to like Assassin’s Creed 1 and Kingdom Come Deliverance and that’s it so far.
Please help me add to this very specific and niche list.

I don’t really find that sort of stuff creatively fulfilling tbh, but even still Fable is pretty straight forward, just do 1, 2 then 3, I think the games do a solid job of inviting the player in anyway.

True, although it is FPS boosted on Xbox so there’s that

All I can hope is that the game has substance above all else. So long as Fable retains its identity, its humour and its heart then I won’t be mad. I may have criticisms, but so long as that core that is Fable is captured then the rest will just melt away.

That said, you can see in the way they’ve designed buildings that it’s not entirely gone, the animation work too, the character looks pretty goofy swinging around that giant hammer, which captures that Fable spirit really nicely.

I have not yet, I’m sure I will do at some point. If that tedium serves a purpose then I’ll probably love it the same as I did P3. Depends how they use it, we shall see 👌🏻

I think it’s probably less about being lacking in enjoyment in totality and more about containing aspects that are intentionally frustrating or tedious to evoke feeling, like the structure of AC1, Persona 3’s Tartarus, Guarma in RDR2 or the multiple replays in Nier Replicant.

There’s obviously overlap there & more often than not games ARE trying to ultimately be rewarding, but I think limiting how you view games in that way only harms its legitimacy as an artform. Games don’t have to be fun to be good & that’s something we have to accept if we want to consider them art.

I think there’s a big divide in substance between people who critique from the perspective that “video games always are meant to be fun and serve me”, and those who accept that games can hold purpose beyond what they do for the player’s dopamine receptors.

I have a feeling I may end up writing something for this game though, the more I play the more I feel myself really understanding it in a way that could make for a killer script!

OKAY, I just realised I'm very obviously being "homesick for a place I can never visit" again!
