A lot of people into #occult or #witchcraft praxis can benefit from traditional theology readings. Liturgical theology can absolutely make you better at ritual. Contemplative sacramental works like Balthasar's can open up magic in new ways. The mystics give language to unitive experience.

Some of my best magical inspirations come from Hilma af Klint, Remedios Varo, Leonora Carrington, Ithell Colquhoun and others. Authors are not the only teachers of magic.

One of the reasons I don't like calling #magic or #witchcraft "spicy psychology" is the reduction of praxis to personal betterment wrenched out of spiritual work. It's like when men get obsessed with Ayn Rand or Peterson. Sure, they might lift weights or eat better. But they go rancid quickly.

I go back and forth a lot on #Crowley but his letter on death, Liber CVI, might be one of my favorite #occult pieces that touches on grief. It's as purple as prose can get and I kinda like it. Occult perspectives on grief are rare and as a rule awful. This one still speaks to me.

Sad to see Mark Dyczkowski passed today. The knowledge of Trika in the West is so indebted to him. The Doctrine of Vibration is an incredible work, and his translation work around the Tantraloka and other texts was so important. Hopefully he is dancing in union with Bhairav 🙏.

I love the pomp of liturgy, and I am a sucker for a good gothic religious aesthetic. But these "rad trad" Catholics are nostalgiac for a Church that A) didn't really exist anywhere but their fantasies and B) they never had to deal with. It was less "O magnum mysterium" and more Magdalene laundry.

Talk about "the One" or mystic union or God-talk among #witches can be tricky. The "One" is not a static thing, nor is union with it a destruction of the self. The many and the One are constantly in communion and flux, not just a hierarchy of fixed states. Monisms can be much more subtle than that.
