Just learnt of GibberLink that won ElevenLabs hackathon. On the one hand, the contestants have enhanced efficiency and energy-savings. Yay 💦 🌎🔥. On the other hand, I don't want my far more capable servants are able to communicate in a language that I cannot understand. youtu.be/EtNagNezo8w?...

I agree on the premise in principle and am shocked by the attack on US scientific institutions. But I would also request my US colleagues to reflect on the last time they took an actual interest in European science policy eg, the AI Act, or the ethical conduct of animal research in China, or...

Elisabeth Bik (@elisabethbik.bsky.social) organized a fund to finance the work of sleuths, including their training and travel expenses! Elisabeth used the full sum of the Einstein Foundation Award she received. It's an incredible honor to know and work with Elisabeth www.science.org/content/arti...

Proceeds to look up author's h-index to verify if argument could be trusted. 😝

Earth & Life Sciences Academics communicating the new EO about indirect rates, imma need you to improve yer messaging- maybe don't say "If I get a million dollar grant, my uni gets another $700k to keep the lights on & water running" bc isn't going to get the traction you think it is-

Just in time. I decided this week to revamp my course on Intelligent Media for next semester. 🙏

🚨BREAKING. From a program officer at the National Science Foundation, a list of keywords that can cause a grant to be pulled. I will be sharing screenshots of these keywords along with a decision tree. Please share widely. This is a crisis for academic freedom & science.

My Bluesky is currently a surreal mix of "Help, 19 year old tech bros are taking over my country" and "I would like to thank my amazing co-authors for..." 🖤

In my Humans & Technology lectures, I use OSHA examples to demonstrate the systematic application of empirical findings to ensuring occupational safety and how that has impacted its German equivalent BAuA (founded 1996). 😢

Excited to be the General Chair of this first #SportsHCI2025 conference, with fellow chair Michael Jones! It is an ACM in-coop event, and the papers will be published in the ACM DL. Join us in the Netherlands in November!

This is part of the email sent to (I assume) all PIs on National Science Foundation grants last night.

Today, my 4 yr old made me a star chart.

I just received a call from the personal assistant of a company who wants to increase their usual sponsorship of #MuC2025. After a lengthier exchange, I learned that she is a #TUChemnitz alumnus & how excited she is that people will get to experience Chemnitz. #kuha2025

I'm glad that we have a different system in Germany. I negotiated for scientific employees before accepting my professorship. While I'm expected to apply for grants & to grow, my research program has the freedom to be independent of political agendas. We need to protect this freedom in the 🇪🇺

My PhD advisee: You should read this paper. It resonates with your planned project on accessibility to archaelogical settings. <proceeds to forward me @bowmanspartan.bsky.social paper> Me: Oh... I know him from 🦋. But not his papers... 🫣

I asked Perplexity to play The Well-tempered Claviar. It did so though Spotify on my phone. But after 1. Prelude, it went on to play Liszt, Satie,... connected by tempo and melody but not by Bach's intent. In the days of strife to come, whose algorithm will reign sovereign over my digital media.

The world has been through anti-science cycles before, to disastrous results On a detour on my lit review, a mosey through the history of our familiar friend, the standard onion (Allium cepa) brought me right to one of botany's greatest cautionary tales of what happens when ideology overrides data
