You are a warrior for Democracy @marcelias.bsky.social. Thank you for everything you do, for writing this letter, for your relentless resistance.

Sure Trump fired the Chairman of the Joint Chiefs and the CNO....but they fired the top JAG's in the Army, Navy, and Air Force. Why would you fire the top lawyers in the armed services at night on a Friday? That's the part you should be freaking out about.

This is an excellent and timely factsheet on Ukraine, U.S. v. European security assistance, and other misunderstood or lied about aspects of the war, by our friends at @thestudyofwar.bsky.social. I'll summarize a few main points below, with additional sources of my own:

Laid-off IRS employee said he had voted for Trump: "I thought that someone with his business acumen would have come in with a fine-tooth comb and actually found it instead of coming in with a wrecking ball and destroying people’s lives for no reason." www.nbcphiladelphia.com/news/local/p...

When the wreckage and dust of what these people are doing to our country has settled and the people have finally had enough to throw these jackals out of office, we will never forget the people who enabled it, despite their protestations they weren’t willing accomplices. Never.

This would be completely illegal. But you wouldn’t know that from reading this post, the headline, or the lede. Unbelievably bad.

In the wealthiest nation on earth, 25% of seniors should not be living on $15,000 a year or less. We should EXPAND Social Security, not cut it. I will soon be introducing legislation to significantly raise Social Security benefits and extend the solvency of the program.

We wanted them to have healthcare and a high paying job and a planet to live on and freedom. They want us to suffer. The parties are not the same.

I've noted some of the procedural things Democrats could be doing in Congress, but this point from @edgeofsports.bsky.social's great piece in the Nation deserves emphasis. This is basic politics, and it's baffling that every Democrat isn't doing it every day. www.thenation.com/article/poli...

DOGE has produced maximum disruption, advanced personal and political vendettas but produced no net efficiency gains and many effectiveness setbacks. If producing efficiency were their goal they’d be a failure. But of course, that’s not it. They’re just a political hit squad on an extremist vendetta

"While Trump retains the ceremonial position of Head of State, signing executive orders with flourish and basking in symbolic pageantry, Musk has effectively become Head of Government, wielding unprecedented control over federal agencies."

If you don’t think promoting hate and discrimination are not primary goals of this administration you’re not paying attention.

I watched Hannity's interview with Musk and Donald Trump so that you didn't have to. It was, as George W. Bush might have said, some weird shit www.theatlantic.com/ideas/archiv...

So if Musk doesn’t run DOGE, and DOGE isn’t a real government agency, then no one has to listen to Musk or do what the DOGE bros tell them to do, right?

If you’re wondering who the Elon Musk staffers are, the Office of Personnel Management (OPM) has several Musk staffers, including Amanda Scales, Brian Bjelde, Stephen Duarte, Christina Hanna, and Bryanne-Michelle Mlodzianowski.

It seems almost unavoidable at this point that we are headed for a deep, deep recession. Just based on 200K+ federal firings & pullback of contracts, the March employment report (to be released April 4) seems certain to show bigger job losses than any month ever outside of a few in 2008-9 and 2020.

"Russia, Russia, Russia" was not Trump's protest. It was his promise. And you made this horror happen, #MurdochJournal. Your protests are empty. The Rapid Rehab of Vladimir Putin www.wsj.com/opinion/vlad... via @WSJopinion

Just discovered that Don Bacon posted this last Friday.

"Sparking concerns." That's understatement, #MurdochJournal. FAA Fires Hundreds of Workers, Sparking Concerns About Air Safety www.wsj.com/business/air...

Here's one more action, bc I realized that Chair of the House Ag Committee's district (appropriately) includes State College. If you're at Penn State, plan a trip to one of his offices to ask him he's not holding a hearing on USDA firing people in charge of bird flu. www.nbcnews.com/politics/dog...

You cannot determine whether you saved or cost money based solely on one side of the ledger. Example: I saved my household $2K by not paying the mortgage.

Let me speak to the DOGE audit language. Many people who work in both the Treasury and specifically the IRS are CPAs. Most audit firms hire CPAs. A 19yo coder has absolutely no idea how to accurately identify waste or fraud. Calling what DOGE is doing as a audit, is a flat out lie.

No foreign adversary has done as much to harm America as President Musk and Donald Trump have done in 3 weeks.

Some federal employees who accepted Trump’s buyout offer are now being notified that their buyout has been denied, and they are being terminated instead.

Again and again, these GOP senators are choosing to remain silent or outright enable the shredding of our Constitution and dismantling of our government because they care more about the billionaires who will benefit than they do about us. And all of these senators are facing re-election next year.

Since I don't want to fall into the trap of presenting media criticism without solutions, let me offer one key idea. Your voice and attention are resources. As much as you use them to address media you don't like, perhaps consider making a concerted effort to amplify and support media you do like

Doing great 👍

The measles outbreak in Texas is reminding me of the public letter Roald Dahl wrote about losing his daughter to measles in 1962, just before the vaccine was publicly available.

This is so smart. @petebuttigieg.bsky.social , thoughts ? And if you see this. A reminder. This is not Twitter. You can engage here and have thoughtful discussions ! We all look forward to reading your thoughts

ACTIVISM ALERT! There will be protests in every state capital (and other areas) this Monday, Presidents' Day, starting around noon. PLEASE attend if you can. www.newsweek.com/50-states-an...

Pete is the one for this big job -- bigger than running for Senate. 2028 presidential hopefuls need to set aside jealousy. We won't have elections unless we fight now. Trying the "easy" way or nibble around the edges is appeasement. @petebuttigieg.bsky.social @hakeem-jeffries.bsky.social

i have worked in well run IT organisations. in every one, there was always some exec who questioned why the company was spending so much on IT, cut the budget & then complained about the the resulting tech failures. those execs & their intellectual heirs are now gutting the US gov's best programs

What is every other news organization with any integrity going to do in response to this? Nothing? Because unless you are an appeaser, it is only a matter of time until you are next. Trump thinks media outlets will never band together to show a united front. So far, he’s correct.

"Trump and Elon Musk are like two guys with six-shooters trying to hold a thousand people hostage. They only win if everyone thinks they are too strong to rush." www.hamiltonnolan.com/p/they-are-a...

If Pam Bondi wants to dismiss the Eric Adams indictment, she can just do it herself. She is the attorney general, she doesn’t need to have a line prosecutor do it for her. But they want to be able to say a career person did it.

When I heard Musk say this on Tuesday, my assumption was that it was a programming issue. Because I can code and have written to databases and because I am familiar with other examples of default values being misinterpreted. Yet somehow Musk isn't.
