NEW: Per multiple sources, the National Cancer Institute’s Board of Scientific Advisors has been entirely disbanded.

Not a single international cargo ship at the Port of Seattle. The port is dead. The last ship from China will dock at a West coast port on the 29th, and the last Chinese ship will dock on the East coast around May 10th. After that, there will be no more shipments arriving from China. We’re screwed.

Every American should be deeply troubled by this massive escalation, and @democrats-judiciary.house.gov are standing strong for judicial independence. This is an unmistakable descent further into authoritarian chaos.

New study in JAMA. Modelling shows that at current state-level vaccination rates, measles may become endemic again in the USA. If rates continue to decline, ditto for rubella, poliomyelitis and diphtheria, leading to many preventable hospitalisations and deaths. jamanetwork.com/journals/jam...

250 years ago tonight: Paul Revere's ride, made famous by Longfellow in 1861 reminding us to fight for freedom. LISTEN, my children, and you shall hear Of the midnight ride of Paul Revere, On the eighteenth of April, in Seventy-five; Hardly a man is now alive Who remembers that famous day and year

I don't really care what the "political consequences" are of fighting for the proposition that *everyone* is entitled to due process before they are removed from the United States and sent to a Salvadoran prison. It's not really a principle if you only adhere to it when it's politically expedient.

What RFK Jr. said was reprehensible. He should be ashamed of himself and step down.

My new piece in The Atlantic continues how to fight Putinization in America. Trump is accelerating his wide-spectrum attacks on the rule of law & on public & private institutions that might slow him. If legislators don’t fight now, they won’t be able to later. www.theatlantic.com/internationa...

Harvard professors filed a lawsuit against the Trump administration over its policy-change demands while reviewing billions in federal funding.

Adolf Hitler's “Mein Kampf” is still on U.S. Naval Academy shelves. “I Know Why the Caged Bird Sings” and “Memorializing the Holocaust” are not. An order by Defense Secretary Pete Hegseth’s office led to a purge of books that are critical of racism — but preserved volumes defending white power.

“College-level library banning... reflects the steep escalation of government censorship we are seeing under the Trump administration, which continues its unrelenting efforts to control what Americans can read, learn, and think.” PEN America president @jennyboylan.bsky.social pen.org/press-releas...

The public library is one of the most powerful ideas ever. Walk in with nothing—walk out with a world of knowledge. That kind of freedom is priceless. On Right to Read Day, let’s remind everyone that libraries are worth fighting for. #NationalLibraryWeek #BookSky 💙📚 #TLSky

I have never seen anything like this in NYC. 5th Ave covered from 42nd St well to the 20s. Nobody prepared for this volume. Volunteers are holding the traffic on all the side streets. No police in sight. #handsoff
