Okay. I've been on here for a while but I don't think I've introduced myself. I'm not a cat, but my cat did provide a perfect profile pic for me, so there's that. I'm a die hard humanist, punk, metalhead who despises fascists with every fiber of his being.

In today's episode of doomerism isn't a strategy, here's a list of things you can do today to make the world around you suck a little bit less: Pick ONE thing and do it. bsky.app/profile/itsa...

I've had a lot of requests for it, so I will post it first tonight! Thanks, @chriswarcraft.bsky.social, for talking with us today about confronting MAGA, getting arrested in California, @protecthb.bsky.social, and fighting the good fight! #Spotlight Interview! soundcloud.com/user-5879035...

NEW: Guest post from almost-Rabbi Ben Luks-Morgan: "We who transition into new names, new identities we have always been here in Jewish being and text. Transgender people have always been here. Queer people. Those who don’t quite fit the normative boundaries of Self-- have always been here."

RFK Jr. thinks that a clinical trial should be done for the entire childhood vaccine schedule. Here’s why that will never happen. 1. You can’t do a randomized trial of something that we already know is safe and effective. There would have to be a placebo group that didn’t get vaxxed. Unethical.

I am going to be so pissed if--after everything--I do, in fact, die of dysentery.

USAID’s inspector general—presumably operating from a remote base in the mountains—has just released a report on the staggering effect of the Trump Administration’s assault on the agency. oig.usaid.gov/sites/defaul...

Can anyone who understands the steel industry explain the effects of the steel tariffs? Looking at our domestic production vs. China's seems like shooting ourselves in the neck.

This is super cool. The Blazers are the first professional sports team to provide OneCourt's haptic display at every home game! This cutting-edge technology enables fans who are Blind or Low Vision to experience live basketball action in real-time, at no additional cost. #RipCity #Blazers

Congratulations to Trump on securing a $1.3 billion border security deal from Canada.... which was already negotiated in December 2024.

The carefully managed water systems in California's Central Valley saw a sudden deluge after the Army Corps of Engineers unexpectedly released reservoir water. “In 25 years, I’ve never seen anything like this. I was given no explanation at all.”

This is Othman. Othman is a fascist who talks about things like the "Jewish Question." Othman also posts a lot of evidence he works in the White House. He claims to be at the Executive Office of the President. I don't know Othman's exact identity yet, but we've got some significant clues!

"People are aroused. I haven't seen people so aroused in a very, very long time," said Chuck Schumer.

Have another big post today on the importance of Bluesky/ATprotocol/decentralization, but also hoping to get people to understand the path forward is taking control over their own social media experience... www.techdirt.com/2025/01/27/e...

1/ THREAD How do we know what we know about Gaza this morning, going from SnapChat. Essentially, how did @thomascopeland.bsky.social and I work out where the banner was, and you can too? (Call it OSint if you must.) www.bbc.co.uk/news/live/cd...

Hey, while we're talking about erasing history: In 1949 the US military held its first Aeriel Gunnery Competition, later known as "Top Gun." The best of the best competed in dogfighting and other skills. The team that won, was the 332nd: The Tuskegee airmen. So they refused to announce a winner🤡

"Walmart makes the places it operates in poorer than they would be if it had never shown up at all. Sometimes consumer prices are an incomplete, even misleading, signal of economic well-being." Fascinating studies on the broader effects of Walmart: www.theatlantic.com/ideas/archiv...

even as someone who studied the far right and authoritarianism for years, the evil emanating off of the Republicans project to destroy America is palpable. while other autocracies and far right authoritarian states attempt to downplay the evil the American far right leans into it and revels in it.

Not to hit his nail again, but in that Hannity interview last night, when he tried to steer it towards the economy, Trumps literal response was "I don't care." A) We should believe him and B) Can you imagine what the uproar would be today if a Dem president said they didnt care about the economy?

While putting together this 1990s-style links page, I'm struck by how few activist orgs websites are built like blogs with constant updates about what's going on/calls to action. They've almost all ceded their news to their social media. Something that needs to change in 2025, imo. gregpak.link

All NIH study sections canceled indefinitely. This will halt science and devastate research budgets in universities.
