I know at least one university that is canning NSF submissions as they can't run at 15% overhead. The uncertainty is killing productivity and inventiveness; but I guess that's the point?

Thank you, PGC people!!! I learned a great deal about Antarctic glaciers and icebergs from looking at your products. And all of you we dealt with were talented and friendly, made science enjoyable.
This sucks.

67 in 20 years sounds great to me! I'm much older, and have 112 publications, but only ~20 first author (FA), and one single author, and most of those are from my ECR days. Last FA was 2018, and before that, 2012. The papers I'm most proud of my contributions to are *not* my FA ones.

It's changing so fast here, at least purchase refundable tickets and wait to the last minute to register for conferences. I'm not generally a conspiracy guy, but it seems possible that they'll scan social media of visa applicants, looking for the govt-banned words and phrases

Canticle of Liebowicz is a great read. The futility of trying to preserve knowledge in a chronically hostile environment. Focus on fostering enlightenment in Europe, Africa and Asia. (And Australasia, of course!)

It could be a ploy to force Europeans to choose between boots on the ground in either Ukraine and Canada

So, time to take a different tack. My feed might get more political. If you dont like that, unfollow. I'm not an "influencer", so I don't care about follower count. And I'm not interested in MAGA perspectives, so I'll happily block.

Same here. Journalists should only use "Christians" when they follow the teachings of Christ. Otherwise, "seft-identifying" should be added

Clinging to little things, like the AL senator wanting a rethink on indirect cost limits because UAB gets a billion dollars from NIH.
Otherwise, screaming at the world seems fair

I don't know many conservatives. But their reps in Congress are silent, so I assume they aren't being harassed by their constituents to tell Musk to take govt sci missions seriously
