"The increase to Musk's wealth since Trump was elected president three months ago is greater than all of the American aid given to Ukraine over the last three years."-- @timothysnyder.bsky.social

Why did Hegseth just fire every top military branch lawyer? What did they refuse to sign off on? A Pulitzer awaits the reporters and outlet who can tell the public.

Rep Raskin has been great. Rep Ocasio-Cortez has been great. And Rep Frost and Rep Crockett. Senator Murphy. Maybe no one knew exactly what to do. But such people laid down a clear marker. Let’s respect these and other elected federal representatives who stood out these first few weeks.

@jenpsaki.msnbc.com: "Inspectors general are a headache for everyone. You know why? Because they're investigating every agency and they find stuff! Including waste and fraud and abuse! They wouldn't be firing them if they cared about waste, fraud, and abuse."

— Accidentally fired workers trying to contain bird flu — Accidentally fired workers overseeing our nuclear stockpile — Accidentally fired workers providing health care to Native Americans “Accidentally.” More like gross incompetence and mismanagement. Opposite of efficient.

In addition to Congress being the place that makes the laws, pretty key thing, the constitution explicitly says Congress gets to create the postal system. It’s not left implied that that comes under law making generally. The President has no power to unilaterally abolish it and move it to commerce.

Exactly right

New: DOGE's spending has been secret. No longer. My colleagues have uncovered it. www.propublica.org/article/doge...

I just wanna congratulate @meidastouch.com for beating Joe Rogan, and thank them for recommending my Substack. Indie media FTW! Check theirs out here: www.meidasplus.com

hey @mattyglesias.bsky.social, the piece that you link to here — my piece — does not say that “all DEI critics want to reimpose segregation” and i would appreciate it if you didn’t lie to your audience about what my work says.

No, but if you’re looking for one, I am aware of a guy you work with that was indicted four times and convicted of thirty-four felonies.

🚨NEW: Defense Secretary Pete Hegseth is planning to fire Chairman of the Joint Chiefs of Staff C.Q. Brown, a 4-Star General and 41-year veteran of the Air Force who flew over 130 hours in combat as a fighter pilot. REPOST if you stand with General C.Q. Brown against Hegseth!

Canadians are now referring to the United States as the 11th province

Richest man in the world muses about Jailing reporters, nothing to see here

What has become completely clear is that Musk and the Nazi Youth Brigade have no idea what they’re cutting or its significance to the safety and security of the nation and its people. They are just swinging machetes at anything they guess could be “woke” or “wasteful” to look like they’re powerful.

Jeff Bezos’ Washington Post would not run this ad. This is the power of oligarchy.

Tom Homan can’t find enough illegal immigrants to deport because they fabricated the ‘crisis,’ so now he’s just gonna spend all his time attacking AOC.

Planes didn't crash when this guy ran things.

This country has seen some bad moments in the 61 years, 5 months, 16 days I’ve been on this Earth. But it has never, ever before come close to the supertoxic level of stupidity, mendacity, narcissism, nihilism, and moral apathy that threaten to destroy it today.

Again and again, these GOP senators are choosing to remain silent or outright enable the shredding of our Constitution and dismantling of our government because they care more about the billionaires who will benefit than they do about us. And all of these senators are facing re-election next year.

Lots of tragic stories and valiant humor on this thread. Also lots of illustrations of just how fucking ignorant Team Elon is.

Incompetence in Washington puts every American at risk, no matter how you voted. No one should be happy that the DOGE team - the same folks who randomly published classified U.S. security information online today - wants access to your bank account & Social Security numbers.

my take is that your willingness to accept this gulf of america nonsense is an indicator of your willingness to accept much worse things coming from this administrator

There's a lot more to fatherhood than randomly flinging semen in every direction and opening a tab wherever it happens to land.

If you support any of this, you’re honestly just a terrible person. People’s lives are being upended and destroyed. For every 1% increase in unemployment, 40,000 people die—yet some are celebrating.

god this guy is an idiot. like, a stone cold idiot who sincerely believes that war fighting and preparedness is about having the biggest dick

1/My statement on learning through news reports that my #securityclearance has just been revoked.

Does “Golden Age” refer to a time when planes keep crashing, eggs cost $10–15 a dozen, the U.S. is being booed and protested by all our allies, workers are losing their jobs, and Americans’ personal data is being rummaged through by unelected oligarchs and their strange crew of 20-something incels?

One way to think about the DOGE effort is it's an outgrowth of 20 years of hardliner conservatives frustrated by their inability to get the votes in Congress to do what they want to do. 1/

This is the essence of it. You can do any and all of this stuff by passing laws. They're not because they lack the votes. So all of this is illegitimate and frankly illegal. I'll go one step further and say there should not be a senate filibuster. You should be able to do any and all of this by ...

I can’t believe this needs to be said, but cutting funding for cancer research is not how you make America great. thehill.com/policy/healt...

Are you a scientist? 🧪 If so, here are great suggestions about how to inform folks about what we do and why it’s important #ScienceMatters

(1/X) The media spent ten years ignoring Trump's obvious personality disorder. We were told "he's a pragmatist, a businessman". Now they are doing the same thing with Elon Musk....

“If Trump’s goal is to destabilize, humiliate and embarrass the loyal people who have chosen to work for their country and federal government, he is succeeding.”

A reminder that while Democracy Docket was warning that Pam Bondi was an election denier who would do Trump's bidding, the Washington Post was giving her a literal thumbs up. Support independent media. www.democracydocket.com/me-subscribe...

Call me crazy, but I don’t think it’s a good idea for a dude who accepted 25K to participate in a Kremlin produced anti-FBI propaganda film to lead that very same FBI. I’d wager wecould probably find a better candidate, no? But hey, that’s just me… www.washingtonpost.com/national-sec...

This is part of the poison fed into people's brain by Reagan, federal employees are evil greedy people in shadowy buildings in DC, not "real Americans" and that has always been dumb. Now it's tragic.

A teen DOGE staffer recently given access to government systems worked at a startup known for hiring convicted hackers. Someone using a Telegram handle associated with him also solicited a cyberattack-for-hire service in 2022. All raising questions about his vetting. www.wired.com/story/edward...

An important historical note — that USAID helped end Apartheid — sheds new light on Elon’s relentless and soulless attack on USAID. During Apartheid, Black South Africans were robbed of human rights and political power. 1/2 www.thealtmedia.com/p/musks-sout...

the Federalist papers describe at length the Founders’ efforts to avoid what’s literally happening right now

This is 💯 correct, and everyone should read it— including and especially everyone in new and legacy media.

Elon Musk is a terrible president.

I would really love to see the NYT & WaPo treat the current political situation with even half the level of alarm they used last year in reporting that Biden was old

WH Press Secretary Karoline Leavitt claims Elon Musk is a "special govt employee" but here's what we know: 1) Leavitt lies. A lot. 2) There is no evidence Musk was appointed as an SGE. 3) SGEs are not allowed to wield presidential authority the way Musk has done. www.reuters.com/world/us/tru...
