A reminder that if the government can send migrants to a prison camp without any due process, it can send U.S. citizens there, too. I know because this happened to me and my family in 1942.

BREAKING — The family abducted by ICE is returning home, per email from Sackets Harbor Superintendent:

We are slaughtered infront of the world .. we are being starved for more than a year .. In the absence of basic necessaries we appeal every human to help my family survive the genocide 🙏 My donation link chuffed.org/project/save...

The point of Senator Booker's filibuster is to be INSPIRED by this man to go find YOUR ROLE, not to wait for them to go save us now. That is not this assignment. Thread of places to go to get started. More coming out of LiST this Thursday.

Sen. Booker just quoted the Langston Hughes poem "Let America Be America Again" "America never was America to me, And yet I swear this oath— America will be!" poets.org/poem/let-ame...

I’ve taken the Senate floor and will speak for as long as I’m physically able to lift the voices of Americans who are being harmed and not being heard in this moment of crisis. Watch here:

This is the way! Stand up and link arms!

One of many moments in Omar El Akkad’s new book, “One Day, Everyone Will Have Always Been Against This,” that will stop you in your tracks.

As an academic, I get up, read the day’s headlines, and remind myself that authoritarian regimes would not treat us like their archenemy if our mission and function were not capable of defying authoritarianism. We educate to empower the people. #academia

Although a small loss in a sea of gutting losses, I’m really sad at losing NEH grants. It breaks my heart that the ruling party of this country doesn’t see what I do: the people, art, culture, stories and humanity that make this place beautiful and worth loving. I wish they loved our great country.

A really cool new study on the impact of climate activism has just dropped! Some highlights: 1) "There is strong evidence that climate activism shifts public opinion and media coverage in a pro-climate direction, but this varies by context and the tactics employed."

I can’t stop thinking about this framing when it comes to climate. And I don’t mean “doom” as in “I feel badly about this situation,” but as in “it’s too late.” Someone responded to my post about the impact of climate activism yesterday calling it hopium. Two people who follow me liked it.

thinking of one of abraham lincoln's great quotes this morning: "As I would not be a slave, so I would not be a master. This expresses my idea of democracy. Whatever differs from this, to the extent of the difference, is no democracy."

Was just reading John Quincy Adams' oral arguments before SCOTUS in the Amistad case and this part seems, uh, pretty relevant

There was one singular person the Trump team wanted to kill. They thought they tracked him to his girlfriend’s place, presumably in a civilian apartment building in Sana’a. So they dropped bombs on the neighborhood and leveled the building. Reactions from the group: “amazing job” “Excellent” “👊🇺🇸💥”

WOW. Watch a constitutional law expert completely DEBUNK Republicans’ censorship crusade, while articulating exactly how Donald Trump is threatening freedom of speech. 🔥

This continues to be the biggest story in the country: DOGE has already squandered half a trillion dollars in 6 weeks. Not billion. half a trillion, $500 billion talkingpointsmemo.com/edblog/irs-p...

This energy right here.

The Trump Administration has detained, kidnapped, and/or deported the following people: - A white, Canadian actress - a US citizen child who survived brain cancer - a Palestinian activist and student - an Indian national and post-doc student - A Filpino woman here for 50 years

We are sending people for indefinite detention without trial at a foreign gulag because they have tattoos about soccer teams and about loving their mothers.

The fight for our democracy is not coming. It is here. When I say that we have months, not a year, to save democracy, I'm talking about this coordinated, relentless legal assault on political dissent. 1/ Let me explain a few elements of Trump's plan: www.nytimes.com/2025/03/19/u...

It’s encouraging to read these responses

In the midst of it all It's always Tatonka Tuesday

I know this first hand. When I was a child, my entire community was branded as spies and sabateurs, justifying our internment inside barbed wire camps for years without due process, trial or charge.

Happy #Caturday from this little fella. He’s my guiding light who reminds me to love fiercely (as he does); to recognize we belong to each other (he doesn’t believe in personal space); and to be tireless in the struggle for freedom (he wants to jump out the window).

Dear Congress, Libraries are the place we all belong. The place where Mister Rogers’ neighbors collide at the library to help one another. We come together to embrace library joy. What good is the world without libraries and museums? ❤️‍🩹 Call, email Congress! Help libraries & museums! We need you 💛

I will not vote to weaken my power to fight for WA state. I will not vote to turn YOUR taxpayer dollars into Trump & Elon's personal slush funds. I will vote NO. We should pass my short term CR, avoid a shutdown, and do our jobs.

🚨 Everyone needs to call their Dem Senator right now. They are starting to cave. Tell them: 1. Vote NO on Cloture AND 2. Vote NO on the Republican spending bill. Don’t let them pivot to reconciliation. GOP doesn’t need Dem votes on that and they know it. TODAY is the showdown. 🤳🏽: (202) 224-3121

we're in legit first they came for territory and a lot of people have been failing at this test they cite all the time

for those in nyc

Trump: Gutting National Parks—And Hiding the Evidence National parks hit 331M visits, but Trump officials don’t want you to know. A leaked memo bans the Park Service from promoting the numbers—while firing rangers, closing visitor centers, and cutting safety. This won’t go well—we love our parks.

Three days ago, Donald Trump openly threatened to kill all of ‘the people of Gaza’ and it wasn’t even a story. No consequences. The media, the world, just moved on.

We will not stop fighting to protect lifesaving medical research. We will keep moving forward in the face of these unlawful attacks.

So much ugly news, but today, my cat held my hand, and it was precious. And it reminds me that we hold each other, we have each other, and we will save each other. None of us are free until all of us are free. #Cats for #democracy

Let me tell you about me, about an actual human being who is being affected by the current administration. I was born in Tennessee. I was my parents first child. I’m the oldest of three. I moved to Setauket, NY when I was seven and grew up there.

Leaders of the free world stand united in London The United States is not among them

Measles outbreaks are back. Grocery and gas prices are up. Bird flu is spreading. All our allies hate us. Air travel is getting unsafe. The stock market is tanking. The government is about to shut down. And he’s only been President for six weeks. This is just the beginning.
