I'm a chronic game hopper, I wish I could stay focused on a game because I want to finish more games, but I'm halfway through Final Fantasy X and sinking hours into replaying Spider-Man 2 and Kingdom Hearts 2 😅

The advancement of technology slowed down dramatically, ME3 has a lot more in common with Star Wars Outlaws than Wolfenstein 3D has with Halo 2, style is a huge aspect of defining "retro"

Yeah I'll buy a PlayStation handheld that lets me play my PS4/5 library but it absolutely won't compete with the Switch 2 on any level in terms of success
I'm glad people like SteamDeck but it seems like way too much of a coin flip on whether or not games will even function on it

I feel kinda disappointed by it being all Japanese studios. The lineup for season 2 was an exciting spotlight of talent all around the world, and now they're just picking some of the most popular studios in Japan. I'm sure it'll be good but it feels regressive to me.

I can understand that view, i guess I just don't see games being stuck on it as a primary qualifier for retro, that applied to PS2 in 2007 and currently applies to PS Vita, Wii U and 3DS

I think in my head it's about overall life cycle, sure the DS came out 20 years ago but it was still in full swing with releases until 12 years ago, it's contemporary with the PSP, Wii, 360 and PS3, which I'd consider not retro, the PS2 was already in the back half of it's life cycle 20 years ago

I don't think I'd call the DS retro just yet but it's definitely on the cusp, I think PS1 and PS2 are definitively retro

I definitely recommend trying it if you haven't, I played the original last year for the first time and loved it, one of my few platinum trophies
