Now that Information has become a limitless resource, maybe it's time to shift to the Deliberation Economy.

Moreover, no agreement has been made that is in force for longer than 90 days.

everyone who abstracts less than me is a ridiculous pedant and everyone who abstracts more than me is a rambling lunatic

Soon: big boat stuck

This is the fundamental flaw in centrist Democratic strategy and we must kill it with fire. Dems chase public opinion, GOP shapes it. Whoever boldly, unapologetically shapes public opinion wins.

If the goal is traffic safety, this runs counter to what research by NHTSA and OJP has readily demonstrated: *high visibility* patrols deter unsafe driving. This is silly cosplaying, cops need to be in uniform and in marked cars. www.ojp.gov/library/publ...

that is so f'ing hyaluronic, dude

maybe there IS hope for American trucks (and cars)

The lesson the tech industry took from this was: better run a scam

TLDR Nonviolent street action faced with violent state response is most effective

"Give up yet keep going" is my new mantra.

“anything we can actually do, we can afford” stamp this on the head of anyone who asks how we can afford universal health care or universal child care or public pensions or free college

There are two problem-solving approaches: 1) identify a problem that you want to solve, then find a method that will solve it or 2) pick a method you want to use, and go hunting for problems. The second way is the stupid way, so it shouldn't surprise anyone that it's the default method in tech.

UX is when you have fewer clicks, and the fewer clicks the more UX it is

Every single Democrat in Congress should be demanding the resignation of Waltz and Hegseth. Every single one. This is a massive scandal. There should be a serious price to pay. AND THERE IS ZERO DOWNSIDE FOR EVEN THE MOST SCAREDY-CAT CONGRESSPERSON.

okay so i've been stepping on rakes and shaving yaks for weeks and i just shaved what i think is the last yak and i legit cannot remember what the absolute fuck i am supposed to do with myself

I am begging @doh.wa.gov and the Dept. of Health from other states to band together and take over this important task. Kennedy will forbid any kind of federal action, but can't states work directly with vaccine manufacturers to produce next year's flu vaccines for their states' residents?

I feel like I'm going insane every time I see a media story about DOGE that doesn't also mention the fact that the Government Accountability Office exists and performs the exact function that DOGE pretends to, only in a credibly constitutional, non-partisan, and conflict-of-interest-free manner

Gotta love the evergeen "it needs to all be in a centralized db so I can query over all records" and as soon as you try to, it falls over.

"Everything is a conspiracy when you don't know how anything works"

There's a reason they call it "deliberation". Repost if you look it up and find out. Like if you don't but have a good guess.

For my entire lifetime the GOP has tanked the economy; Dems have repaired it, and the Business Class has gone for the GOP; and the places which OUGHT to have institutional memory refuse to remind folks of how consistent the pattern is; and how much worse the swings have been getting.

This whole thread. And: Tech WORKERS are nerdy, which just leans toward ideological adventurousness — including socialism, honest libertarianism, naïve glibertarianism, et cetera. It is tech OWNERS who have taken a sharp right turn.

@straczynski.bsky.social just read Glass Box cover to cover. Well done, sir.

So just like StackOverflow.

As a developer I cannot condone commercial clothes sourced.

“Celebrated are the minimal dependencies, the humble function that just quietly does the job, the code that doesn't need to be touched for years because it was done right once.” lucumr.pocoo.org/2025/1/24/bu...

So here's what's cool about my job: Yesterday morning I said, "We really ought to have TWIN PEAKS available." So then a bunch of people scrambled, worked really hard, and now you can watch every episode of David Lynch & Mark Frost's original series for free on Pluto TV: pluto.tv/us/on-demand...

What if open source actually has a "fun" problem instead of a "funding" problem?
