Clothes and electronics like TVs are way cheaper. Because they are imported. Having a big TV used to be a super flex. Now everyone has one. But everything that has to be produced and consumed in America like homes and medical care is prohibitively expensive now

You could do that same chart with pretty much anything made in America—homes, medical costs, college—all far exceeded inflation since the 80s. The average American is worse off in real terms, and they have to do more to maintain their precarious position.

Like if you’re the average American, buying a house gets harder every generation. In the 80s a house was 3.5x income, and now a house is 6x income. In a generation a house will be 10x income. That is why people are gambling.

The reason for the mass proliferation of sports gambling, crypto scams, and Robinhood options trading is because every decade it gets harder to make it in America. The people aren’t stupid, they know the game is rigged and so they are taking insane risks rather than play straight up.

"So we out in these hot ass streets with the hot wheels governor who a hot ass mess" I support her 100 pct. !!!!

Its more than that though. Its also about their enemies *not* being able to say what they want.

Everybody is selling you something.

The drone strike group chat is beyond unprofessional. But the real story is how the US and its allies have failed to defeat or even deter the Houthis after a years long bombing campaign. What does it say about the state of US power?

It was never about free speech. It was about power.

Beyond the abundance narrative, I’m not sure the basic claims are correct — if Dems build more stuff, I don’t think that necessarily makes trump people less likely to be maga. Biden did a big infrastructure plan.

I feel like the abundance politics stuff is more about narrative or vibes. Because you can easily argue that national Dems have already supported building infrastructure.

What I don’t get about abundance politics is how its different than what the last two Democratic Presidents did? Both of which passed investment/stimulus bills which invested in American companies and built infrastructure.

“But her emails” lol

Once men turned their thinking over to machines in the hope that this would set them free. But that only permitted other men with machines to enslave them. — Frank Herbert

“hypocrisy is merely an expression of power” nails the subtext of a lot of political utterances too.

Exactly 🤨. Most of Elon’s money comes from US government handouts.

In the Matrix Neo asks the Oracle what Smith is. She said: “He is your opposite, your negative, the result of the system trying to balance itself out.” That’s Trump to Obama. Obama represents a multicultural democratic future. Trump represents a white segregationist past. They’re inexorably linked

THIS is why Elon INVESTED $280 million in electing Trump.

Some real truth here. Look at the handouts that Musk’s companies have received.

"..hypocrisy is merely an expression of power." - Its not a glitch, its a feature. Knowing that truth is now your superpower, go wield it! @teslatakedown.com #boycottcorporategreed

"Axios, are we the baddies?"

Its a common historical theme: private fortunes amassed by people who find ways to tap into public funds. But of-course they hate the government; any expansion of central power may cut of their own supply lines or add ”competitors”.

While the people in need of tax dollars are going without needs being met.

Lost Cause-ism dominates American culture

So insightful. Follow Dr. Johnson and read the whole thread.

Every empire in history has said the exact same thing. They all fell, and life moved on. The world will be just fine if the US and the west are no longer dominant. Americans can still have good lives even if they aren’t dominating others. Perhaps better even

The same oligarchs who claim they hate government handouts are almost entirely reliant on government handouts themselves. Some would say it is hypocritical. But remember that hypocrisy is merely an expression of power.

So just like maga is an ideology for losers—the same people who lost the civil war and WW2 and the colonial wars—doge is a vehicle for corporate losers who fear competition and know they can’t survive without government handouts.

The oligarchs who are all in on Trump are the ones whose business future looks the worst. Besides Musk, there’s crypto scams and other tech hypeman fraudsters. They NEED government handouts or else they’re not going to make it. Without government money, they’d get cooked by the market long term

Musk’s wealth is tied up mostly in Tesla which is facing serious competition all over the world. The rest of his companies are either complete nonsense or rely entirely on government money to stay afloat. He went all in on Trump and doge handouts because he’s in deep trouble and desperate.

And for Musk, the going is getting tough! China is producing cheap, reliable, stylish EVs which will soon be everywhere outside the US. Tesla can’t compete with that. Even the western based EVs are cutting into their market share. SpaceX relies entirely on government $ and isn’t commercially viable

Why is doge really about handouts if Musk is so rich? The reality is its all an illusion, a smoke and mirrors con game. Musk is cut from the same cloth as Elizabeth Holmes, as Sam Bankman Fried, as Charlie Javice. A hype man who cosplays as a coder or a phd. His empire was all built on your taxes.

There have been a few moves by Musk to steer billions of dollars in the Trump admin to his companies in sloppy attempts at corruption. He tried to get a $400m contract for Telsa cars for state, and he tried to get the FAA to award Starlink billions over Verizon. This is what doge really is. Handouts

But doge isn’t only a weapon against liberal power, it is also a vehicle for rewarding Republican elites. This is patronage politics. Reward your friends with government contracts and handouts and corporate welfare. And Musk is the biggest welfare queen of all.

Trump and other Republican elites see liberals/minorities as ascendant in cultural & economic power and are looking for ways to reverse the trend. They are trying to nuke concentrated areas of liberal power—bureaucracy, the academy, media, likely soon Hollywood. That is the purpose of doge. A weapon

The most obvious thing about the doge fraud is they’re not saving any money at all. In fact the Republican budget is set to increase spending and increase the deficit by fantastical numbers. That’s because the purpose of doge is not to save money at all, it is to punish their enemies.

The media should stop talking about doge as an effort on “government accountability” or affordability or whatever propagandistic nonsense comes out of Musk’s mouth. The purpose of doge is twofold: to punish the right’s perceived ideological enemies and to reward their elite supporters.
