(2/2) It's all very reminiscent of when the far right took to the streets in the 70s about immigration, and then Thatcher went on to be elected later based on cracking down on immigration. My personal view is that sectors such as social care should not suffer just to appease the RW.

(1/2)The hard reality that even though most of us sane people know that the immigration issue is nothing more than trying to create a split society by the RW, Labour does not have the media on its side so is fighting a losing battle if not seen to be doing something...

This is nonsense. Any politician who is anti LGTBQ+ would never attend Pride marches. youtu.be/2qF5kPca6zU?...

Maybe all ex-US countries should come together and agree on less import / export costs for automobiles between each other to offset the harm these tariffs may do.

I've said this all along. Musk's attitude to everything all goes back to this. If he just learnt to accept Vivian, lose all this anger & hate towards anything thats different in a straight South African males world, it would be a game changer.

There is absolutely no way the UK will ever support an invasion of Canada. If that is the rhetoric that is being peddled by the Canadian press / sm, maybe have a think about who may really be behind fuelling the rhetoric. It certainly isn't the UK as nobody is saying that here. Don't fall for it.

The UK is not part of the EU (unfortunately), while Trump views the UK as a friend. There is a huge difference in relations. I am really not sure how I can explain the current, rather delicate situation any more than I, & others on this thread have to you as to why Starmer is having to be careful.
comment in response to post
UK trade and intelligence is far more deep rooted with the US than with France. Plus with Starmer currently trying to repair relations with the EU after Brexit, it's why Starmer is doing quite the balancing act to keep things civil with Trump while negotiating the Ukrainian peace deal.

If you can't see it for all the reasons I have given so far, it's because you are not seeing the bigger picture. Our prime ministers are meeting each other later today, also The King. Hopefully you will be more reassured after that.

It's the UK that is leading on making sure Ukraine gets a decent peace deal and Starmer, along with Macron, are the main two countries that Trump appears to respect. This is far more immediately important than the Canada situation, I hate to say, as people are getting killed over this everyday.

Kara, he will support Canada and is already doing so in the best way he can while he is navigating the delicate situation with Trump. The Lib Dems are great but it is always easier to speak out on matters when in opposition, as Labour themselves are now finding out.

It seems lots of unnecessary guns have been jumped here in this conversation and I sense how rightly passionate you are about your sovereignty however, there are a LOT of sensitive factors at play here atm, and quite sure the UK will have Canada's back in the end for reasons I have explained.

THIS is how the UK stands up for our allies youtu.be/KicNkuimCws?...

I'm sorry, Kara, but you are now speaking absolute nonsense. Starmer has been unwavering for his support for Ukraine, only strengthening it in the last few weeks by the COTW. The way Starmer welcomed Zelensky days after him being bullied by Trump was obvious as to how he feels about Ukraine.

I am not sure what is being peddled on Canadian news channels, but i believe we know our PM much better than yourself. His values are far more aligned with EU & Canada than the US, but its its super important to keep Trump on side atm. You need to have more faith in Starmer.

Took me 2 seconds to find this on Google. Please feel free to do your ow homework next time. news.sky.com/story/king-c...

Given The King is head of the Commonwealth, who has already reaffirmed support for Canada's sovereignty, an unusual political move, this would have been the UK / Starmers way of backing Canada while Starmer continues to keep Trump on side with the peace talk negotiations.

And yet the UK is the one major country that hasn't been slapped with big tariffs other than on steel. The countries who have, including America, are now at risk of recession, as well as reducing global GDP as a result.

Far from it. Starmer is just having to play the most delicate balancing act in trying to get the best outcome for everyone. He isn't Trump who feels the need to retaliate publicly to every single thing, and all the better for it. www.canzukinternational.com/2025/03/uk-p...

A Wealth Tax of just a 1% increase on the rich's income would unlikely touch the sides of those being taxed, but would instantly help so many poorer people. Cuts are not the answer, also ppl remember this at the ballot box. Reeves will get a bit of stick initially, but it's the right thing to do.

Trump deliberately wanted to publicly shame Zellensky. It was a power move to appease Putin.

Ed Davey is excellent! I also believe Starmer is doing a great job atm at balancing a very delicate situation with Trump. I'm mot sure Davey would be as vocal if he were PM. It's always easier to voice what you really think while in opposition.

She caused millions of people in the UK to be massively poorer, scraping to get by on mortgages by crashing the economy. A lettuce seems quite kind to what she should be called.

No worries. You're right, she has gone in! About to block too.

The fact you are generalising everybody that is open to supporting Starmer in the same box as not being decent human siblings I believe says more about you than everyone else. No point in getting into this when you can do your own homework on the positive achievements this govt has already done.

Given your profile reads 'Anti-Starmer Leftist' Starmer could do everything you are asking, and still that probably wouldn't be good enough. Maybe look at the practicalities of what you are suggesting in the current climate before jumping to conclusions. "Not a priority" does not mean ruled out.

It's a shame @news.sky.com are not making more of a big deal about a Nazi salute was just given by the world's richest man at the inauguration of the next president of the world's biggest country. That's the actual headline.

This appears to a good start announced yesterday via the Treasury. Oddly, the right wing media are not making a huge noise about it for some reason. 🙄 I do agree that growth could potentially be greater if we were back in the SM.

I wouldn't underestimate him. He's proven already he is able to play a long game and smart enough to know when to press the button. There needs to be much more noise for Breturn for him to gamble on the negative onslaught the RW media will throw at him for doing this. He needs to get growth up 1st.

I have a feeling after the recent attacks by Musk that Starmer will not do a Biden and let this happen. He is already on it - watch this youtu.be/N-TptxKhJf4?...
