Gotta wonder what the next decade will bring #Advancement or #Stagnation for humans in space

Daily news got you tied up in knots? Maybe take a break and learn some real knots, Animated Style www.animatedknots.com - Today I learned and used the Poacher Knot, it worked great and was easy to make even with my fumble fingers.

I'd say many astronauts would like to have the opportunity for extra days in space and be able to contribute to science being accomplished. www.cnn.com/2025/02/13/s...

A recent concert we went to was super special. It was performed by public school honors musicians from our 6 county area. There were 2 concerts in 1. First was the middle school band followed by the high school band. It was excellent! Before we left we talked about coming back each year. Wow!

It seems impossible but watch and listen to to this video! "Live from the Factory Floor: The 5 Browns - Rhapsody in Blue (full performance) - 5 skilled, dynamic pianists playing as one! I've never heard or imagined anything like this being done or possible. youtu.be/AWsjRK-yQvk?...

Part 2 of 2 - So being categorized as essential means that if/when there's a US Govt shutdown, March 14th due to Congress failing to approve a budget - I once again won't be paid but will be required to be at work.

Part 1 of 2 - It turns out that the Deferred Resignation (or buyout as people are calling it) offered last week has been pulled back for my type of FAA job position. It seems I'm back to being an essential employee. ✈️🎛️

DCA has a powerful constituency of lawmakers who love it for its convenience. The helicopters have a powerful constituency of military leaders who love them for their convenience. Elites in our government have ignored clear and present safety issues to save some time. #AA5342

I toured CT-2 a few years back during it's upgrade/modification for the Artemis program. It felt like I was on a Navy ship, thick grey heavy steel everywhere. Such an impressive machine. #NASA #KSC youtu.be/wmUkyzNArQI?...

2 - Oh well, I’ll still be at work doing my best every day even if not appreciated by politicians. The joke at work is if anyone leaves their computer unlocked someone will reply to the email with “Resign” - your fate is set. That literally is all it takes to end a career. Reply with 1 word - Resign

Part 1 - As a US Government employee since 1975 I thought I’d seen it all as a civil servant. But the email suggesting employees resign that I received last evening! Hmm, I guess I’m not as valued as I felt the past 49+ years working to keep the flying public safe as a FAA Technician.

I am grateful for buttons. Tangible ones, not digital. I am grateful for dials. I am grateful for controls that are available right on a device and a remote or app might be included but is not required for the device to fully function. I am grateful when these things are clearly labeled.

President Trump ordered the immediate end to diversity, equity and inclusion programs in the FAA, but critics say the move could undermine safety and staffing.

US Govt #efficiency - Typical that it took from Dec 30, 2024 until today Jan 6, 2025 for the leadership of the FAA to acknowledge and start to get word out that we will observe Jan 9, 2025 - the national day of morning for President Jimmy Carter as a holiday.

If you're familiar with FIRST Robotics Competition you'll start planning how to build a 2025 robot to compete in this year's game "REEFSCAPE" Take a couple minutes, get a glimpse at the new game concept shown in this video. youtu.be/YWbxcjlY9JY?... Learn more www.firstinspires.org/robotics/frc...

This works as a good analogy for our current times. In flight, passengers are told that if the oxygen masks drop down put your mask on first to better assist others. As we head into 2025 take care of yourself first so you can help those in need. The year will be long. Be strong We'll all need help.

Good morning! Happy New Year! I’ll be honest, I have a sense of trepidation about the coming year, but best foot forward, time to make progress on projects, let’s see where we end up! Tax return the first challenge! Eeep! #StayBright

Detailed telemetry is expected Jan 1, with science data to follow. Launched in 2018, the PSP was designed to make repeated, ever deeper dips into the sun's outer atmosphere to learn more about what powers the solar wind and drives temperatures in the corona to millions of degrees (2/2)

NASA's $1.5B Parker Solar Probe survived its Xmas Eve flyby of the sun. Signals from the probe reached Earth late Thursday, showing the 3.8-million mile pass above the sun's surface, at a record velocity of 430,000 mph, went off as planned despite heat shield temps expected to reach 1,800 F (1/2)

*Steps on to archivist soapbox, taps microphone* The biggest lie you can tell yourself is "I'll remember." No. You won't. Write down/add metadata about who/what/where/when. Put a year on EVERYTHING. Now is a great time to group project this with family!

Did you know that you should end your alt text with a period? "End alt text with a period, even if it isn’t a full sentence. The period ensures that the screen reader pauses after reading the alt text." This was a new tip for me. Glad to learn something new! www.nngroup.com/articles/wri...

Happy to see my new book at #24 on Amazon's Best Sellers list in the Astronautics and Space Flight book category. Four book signings scheduled over the next 2 months. One is private, one at the Remembering Columbia Museum, one at Space Center Houston, & one at the Lone Star Flight Museum.

Here we go again, many FAA employees including yours truly will be required to go to work with NO as in ZERO paid time off allowed. Oh yes and no paychecks until #another temporary funding bill is approved by the best politicians money can buy, the elected of the US Congress and US Senate.
