Half of business owners on this Toronto street estimated that more than 25% of their customers arrived by car. In fact, it was 4%. And the % of customers who who walked or cycled? 72%. Retailers routinely overestimate the # of “car customers.” Via @carltonreid.com www.forbes.com/sites/carlto...

It’s REALLY important that #Vancouver’s Downtown Business Association, who were originally against downtown bike-lanes, are now among their most vigourous supporters, because of the evidence that they are better for downtown business than any street parking they replaced. Bike-lanes mean business.

While Toronto politicians and planners sit on a dysfunctional uber stop heavy transit system, Waterloo is making smart changes - removing stops and making remaining ones nicer. Good thing we have major metropolitan centres like . . . Waterloo, to show us the way

93 stops are being removed from the GRT bus system on April 28. This is a good thing! Access to transit has not been reduced but buses will operate more reliably due to less dwell delay. This move also makes stop maintenance and upgrades easier, especially during winter. www.grt.ca/en/rider-inf...

Thanks for the breakfast meeting, Premier Ford — and for standing up for Ontario. We’ve got a big fight ahead of us, and we’ll be working together every step of the way. We’re strongest when we’re united.

May I suggest to those living in the Toronto Tri-Region Area and extended hinterlands that they go outside soon. It's petite spring out there. Be with the people, good antidote to the news of the south.

“The right to have access to every building in the city by private motorcar, in an age when everyone possesses such a vehicle, is actually the right to destroy the city.” - Lewis Mumford

Happy #mar10day !

Diana, our family: without your support, I wouldn’t be standing here. Without your examples, I wouldn’t have a purpose. Without your love, I wouldn’t have the strength for what lies ahead.

One thing I didn't write but should have: an Uber exec on the task force that sees bike lanes a problem. Those lanes keep their Uber Eats delivery people safe. By coming out against lanes as congestion causes they are really saying they don't care about the safety of their delivery people.

It would be helpful if more people understood renewable energy is actually an extremely disruptive technology and the reason monied interests are trying to make folks hate it is that they are the ones which will be disrupted.

Look at this beauty.

I don't know who this guy is but he's absolute right.

This is not the time for politics as usual.

Never forget, if you plan cities for cars and traffic, you get cars and traffic. If you plan cities for people and places, you get people and places. Plan for the city you want. HT Fred Kent

Very funny for Elon specifically to feign concern about children who will never see their father

I'm not sure people understand the mental toll. It takes on people to be wondering constantly if your country's economy is going to collapse on a whim. And a lot of this stuff is the way it is because America in the past wanted it that way!

😬

Actual work has started on a suburb in Utrecht that will have space for 12,000 residents, three schools, two supermarkets, offices, restaurants and a gym – but no cars. www.dutchnews.nl/2025/03/work...

I feel like mixed-use housing is always above commercial or office space—at least in North America—and many opportunities are lost to create mixed use housing located above light industrial and geared towards skilled trades workers (like me), especially when that type of work is in such high demand.

The US does innumerable unfair things to Canada, but might makes right!

The "ten-minute network." Taken a few nights ago!

Bring back the slab!

In the end, once ford is gone, I think that Toronto will eventually be a bike friendly city. The community is there and the support is there (in the city proper) to expand the bike lane network. All the city needs is a leader who will let them do their thing. #toronto #bikelanes #dougford

Wow: JD Vance is apparently skiing in Vermont this weekend and the locals aren’t having it. Thousands have lined the streets in protest.

This is Winston Churchill visiting Washington DC to request assistance in the war against Germany. Notice he is wearing a "zip suit" and not a traditional suit. This was to honor the British troops--the same reason Zelensky dresses the way he does.

Freedom and democracy are always worth fighting for. Slava Ukraini.

If you wanted to make an argument for electoral reform in Ontario, these seat and vote totals would be a pretty good place to start. First-past-the-post has its merits, but these are some pretty wild splits.

All the parties in Ontario should play an election campaign hockey game. I think it’d be hilarious. #ontarioelection2025

Cheering yall on from Toronto🔥

This is really important. We’re in a time when good things we’ve achieved need to be fiercely fought for & passionately protected, including NYC’s smart, successful de-congestion pricing. Watch & share @streetfilms.bsky.social’s great video from yesterday’s protest with @misernyc.bsky.social & more.

I continue to believe that urbanism is not inherently partisan, which is why it’s so sad that the culture wars have melted people’s brains enough to polarize against things as obviously good as active transportation.

Post wins Bluesky tonight.

The Ontario New Democratic Party has announced continued expansion & improvement to the GO Transit Network in their transportation plan. This plan includes an extension of the Kitchener Line or a new line to the City of Cambridge, providing service between the Cities of Guelph and Cambridge.
