seems like maybe banks should be setting targets based on when they will stop funding fossil fuels not some global average temperature with big uncertainty bars

ULEZ works. It’s that simple. Expanding the Ultra Low Emission Zone wasn’t a decision I took lightly, but the latest figures show that it was the right one for the health of millions of Londoners.

Speculation about benefit cuts can be deeply hard. Please remember: * reforms don’t come into effect quickly * most changes will be for new benefits applicants and change in circumstances * majority of media coverage is still speculation and you have no obligation to click

It's not true that all benefit claimants are unemployed: 37% receiving Universal Credit work. But in any case, our party exists to serve the whole working class, including those out of work. Cutting welfare would have disastrous consequences. We can tax extreme wealth instead.

In this current harsh world, let's warm a few hearts remembering the events of 7-8 March 1991, when the 90,000 people of Brindisi woke up to find 25,000 Albanians roaming the streets of their town. For perspective, that's roughly equivalent to 25k people suddenly landing in Hastings [Thread] >> 1

This is a stark, bleak report on class/racial disparities in elite occupations. It's not that minoritised people aren't applying. It's that the jobs given disproportionately to white affluent people. www.nuffieldfoundation.org/wp-content/u... for the reading rec @sarahmay1.bsky.social

This feels hugely real to me. Growing up with a very visible disability has meant (still means) having to constantly navigate other people’s discomfort with my body, with me just existing near them. No one should have that cited as a reason to restrict their rights. No one.

Trans people require 100% support for our human rights from all politicians. This is not a "purity test" that's how rights work. You cannot take the rights from a person, ever. 0% tolerance for this shit.

Many of the scientists that the Trump administration is defunding and persecuting will be working on strategically important technologies and research areas. The UK and other European countries should urgently establish programmes to bring those researchers here.

I constantly hear/see journalists, commentators & interviewers asserting how easy it is to get incapacity & disability benefits despite clearly having no real understanding of how the process actually works or having spoken to someone who's been through it. Completely distorts public understanding

It would be helpful if more people understood renewable energy is actually an extremely disruptive technology and the reason monied interests are trying to make folks hate it is that they are the ones which will be disrupted.

The inability to grasp that in a democracy a state can only mobilise people to fight if it can promise them a society worth fighting for is characteristic of Cameron-era punditry

European (including British) rearmament is not a one-off expense. It’s the work of a decade. And good luck maintaining domestic support for that programme if it is accompanied by cuts in public services and welfare.

Oil and gas production is in long-term decline in the UK. This is one of my favourite charts from our new analysis of how Clean Power 2030 will affect UK oil, gas and biomass imports. Full report in comments. #energysky

Oxfam: “Israel’s decision, to block aid to over 2 million Palestinians in the Gaza Strip as Ramadan begins, is a reckless act of collective punishment, explicitly prohibited under international humanitarian law."

Zelenskyy went into that nest of vipers and roasted them all. Good. They all exposed themselves, they demeaned themselves in a way that was undeniable. Perfect.

The beavers are coming. www.businessgreen.com/news/4410198...

Trump's "anti-trans sadism ...should not only offend us because it is cruel. It should offend us because it demands that govt depts, federally funded institutions, and people who work for them participate in a lie: that trans people are not who they say they are." www.theguardian.com/commentisfre...

Some good news. Ministers scrap controversial DWP program allowing landlords to tap into tenants’ benefits, @patrickjbutler.bsky.social reports. “I’m determined to right the wrongs that have persisted in the benefits system for too long,” says Liz Kendall. www.theguardian.com/society/2025...

All these essays explaining voters’ “legitimate concerns” and no mention of the terrifying daily realities of migrants who move to those voters’ neighbourhoods, improve their existences with their labour, and are rewarded with regular threats and violence against their person and their property.

it'd be nice for one mainstream and prominent centrist/centre-left/left-wing party somewhere in the western world to actually try and consistently and vocally make the positive case for immigration for an entire term and see what happens - it may not work! but it'd be nice for one party to try it

TIL you can request an emergency supply of medication from a pharmacist in the UK without a prescription. That definitely seems like something worth knowing if you have a cliff-edge condition like epilepsy or #AddisonsDisease @addisonsdisease.bsky.social

The Trump regime's segregationist agenda is clear. I argue that having a Black man as president of white America enraged a portion of this country so much, that they decided to destroy any pipeline to Black advancement in academia, government, & workplaces. karenattiah.substack.com/p/trumps-seg...

Something is shifting. They are still breaking things and stealing things. And they will keep trying to break and to steal. But the propaganda magic around the oligarchical coup is fading. (1/2)

Look, if you’re someone who gave lip service to ‘legitimate concerns’ over the rights of trans people or migrants over the past few years and you feel like a bit of a chump now, you don’t actually have to follow the people who lied to you down the far right rabbit hole. You can stop.

Quare siletis juristae in munere vestro? [Why are you jurists silent about that which concerns you?]

Sorry for making you look at him but yet again, as with Peterson, Musk, Montgomerie and so many others, the turn to the hard/far right begins with obsessive transphobia. It might be the primary driver of rightwing radicalisation over the last decade. They always bring it up.
