Trump tried a seizure of power in 2021. It didn't work, because he relied only on a violent mob. The military and FBI stayed loyal to the Constitution. This time, with approval of the Republican Senate, Trump has installed anti-constitutional putschists at FBI, DoD, and Pentagon

this is the single biggest thing about anyone who claims harris ran a good campaign. she made it clear she was reaching out to republicans. she ran to biden's right and courted republicans and what did it actually buy her? nothing. that's not a good campaign even purely stategically.

4,500 schools have this tech but they can’t pay for school lunches or pay for support for children with disabilities

This is the most wretched campaign of deliberate, explicit persecution the United States has perpetrated against a minority group in decades. Many of the most important people in politics and journalism are busying themselves trying to figure out how little to say or do about it.

what the moment calls for is fighters instead of gormless boobs who should have retired 30 years ago. policy differences can be hashed out later, everyone can agree that Musk and Trump must be stopped and democracy restored

DOGE’s accounting of its “savings” is riddled with sloppy mistakes. The five largest cuts that it listed on its website earlier this week were all incorrect — making the savings look far larger than they were in reality.

I am pleased to announce that Whitman-Walker has returned a trans care resource, now under “primary care.” I am told the decision was to update today and that it is a case of bad timing, but also confirmed the reason why it was removed was fear of the Trump admin. Still. I am very happy it’s back.

Know Your Rights trainings work. Don’t even open the door. Really, to anyone. If it’s someone important and they know you, they have a cellphone, they’ll call.

the party of family values

Very much like the Iraq War, somehow "I thought Elon Musk was a genius until a couple years ago" is now considered the more respectable and serious opinion than "I knew he was a fraud for a decade and was never fooled by him."

The poster child for white male mediocrity, Pete Hegseth, is firing qualified Black men and women from the military.

For all you who continually whine “I’m not racist, I just think we need to have standards,” this is absorb this.No Black man could become head of the Joint Chiefs without meeting the standard. What they want is to harden a system of affirmative action for white guys. They what their grandfathers had.

"The crowd again started shouting 'tax Elon,' 'tax the wealthy,” “tax the rich' and 'tax the billionaires.'" The county went 68% for Trump www.lagrandeobserver.com/news/local/r...

another great example along with Wired and Teen Vogue of how real journalism these days can be a lot braver at outlets where no one is trying to get in good with the White House press secretary they’re out here with us, reporting on what’s happening to us all, instead of trying to get inside access

You gotta practice living in the moment. Because a huge thing that will help these guys untimely win is all of us being an anxious wreck all the time.

Oh fuck, what a grift. J6 terrorists sue a DOJ controlled by Trump; Trump orders DOJ lawyers to settle for an undisclosed amount, both sides agree to an NDA. This can happen dozens, hundreds of times. Just an ingenious way to funnel tax dollars to far-right terrorist groups.

Making institutions throw trans people under the bus in order to grovel for funding that isn't going to survive the doge cuts anyways reminds me of the beginning of Rebel Moon when the admiral promises to spare the kid's family if he kills his own father, then they kill his family anyways.

We can't afford air traffic controllers, but we can afford a $200 million government ad campaign thanking Trump. www.rollingstone.com/politics/pol...

Of the Chiefs of Staff, vice chiefs of staff, and judge advocates general of the three branches, Trump fired all the women and Black people.

LET'S GOOOOOOO STUDENTS!!

the thing about America and freedom is that “freedom” is just part of the branding, like McDonald’s and “I’m Lovin’ It”, you’re not supposed to take it literally, you’re just supposed to nod at a blue lives matter colored super duty and go “mmm free” while a cop shoots you in the brain

Get his ass, youths

Someday people will forget that not everything in every store was behind a stupid locked cabinet that you have to hunt down an employee to open. You used to just be able to go to Walmart and toss a Nintendo controller into your cart with the Chex mix. It was called shopping and it was great

God it's good to see people encounter this kind of bullshit and just say "no, we're not doing that."

Just look at these paragraphs from the AP story. Hegseth called Brown unqualified solely because he's Black. Then they fired him... and replaced him with a white guy so indisputably unqualified that he requires a Presidential waiver. This is what "merit" means to them. apnews.com/article/trum...

I've been writing a series of essays for PBS on men whose style I admire. The latest is about James Baldwin, a man who knew how to sing through clothes. www.pbs.org/wnet/america...

(1) good! (2) link to the goddamn filing!

Ohio and the Cincinnati area continue to do everything in their power to make me happy I left.

New: DOGE's spending has been secret. No longer. My colleagues have uncovered it. www.propublica.org/article/doge...

NEW — 19-year-old DOGE engineer Edward Coristine turns out to be the grandson of former KGB spy Valery Martynov, who played a role in a sprawling 1980s espionage saga. www.jacobsilverman.com/p/prominent-...

Needless, stupid, and cruel

The very conservative NY Post takes Trump to task on Ukraine nypost.com/2025/02/20/o...

so, this is the sort of thing where people will say, "well, voters didn't know what they were voting for" or some such. I don't really buy it. 1

I was then present, saw them salute

“how did we get here?” asks journalist who refuses to call a nazi salute what it is.

Little good usually comes from commenting on people's appearances, but I do think there's value in understanding why America's self-styled champions of traditional masculinity look like... this.
