“That is why Trumpists are so focused on “ending DEI” in the federal workforce. They see anti-discrimination and inclusion as a ladder of upward mobility for people they do not believe should have one.”

Albertans are slowly waking up to the depths of the scandal enveloping the UCP government. A lot of folks are wondering how to explain what's going on to people who haven't been tuning in. Here's the what, so what now what, and what's next of the situation. 🧵

Casually bringing this back… #OCanada 🍁

On Wednesday I was the first to report Leland Dudek was on the verge of losing his job at the Social Security Administration when he was suddenly promoted to acting commissioner by Elon Musk. Thursday I published a story with more details. I’ll let you guess if I got any credit in this Post story:

DITCH HIM 🇨🇦🇺🇸

“We can disagree and still love each other unless your disagreement is rooted in my oppression and denial of my humanity and right to exist” James Baldwin

Stunning. If they're into the nationalist frame, why does the GOP want us to get lapped in the clean energy innovation race?

I agree with @maxfawcett.bsky.social the Freedom convoy folk are Trumpers not Canadians. www.nationalobserver.com/2025/02/21/o...

Elon’s busy schedule today is claiming astronauts were left in the ISS for political reasons, getting corrected by an ISS astronaut, throwing a fit where he calls the astronaut a slur, then complaining that we should deorbit the ISS

Super smart conversation about Canadian oil economics and strategy. @maxfawcett.bsky.social knows his shit. #ableg #abpoli #cdnpoli www.youtube.com/watch?v=BBPz...

Why government is good — and how Americans are about to find that out the hard way. www.nationalobserver.com/2025/02/18/o...

Why DOGE will be a disaster for America is @maxfawcett.bsky.social column in his newsletter today. Read what Canada's top columnist has to say about it. www.nationalobserver.com/newsletters/...

I hope America is as lucky as the delta jet - everyone survives but the right wing explodes

DOGE Nazis have illegally fired 600 workers from Bonneville Power Authority, a hugely important federal utility in the Northwest www.oregonlive.com/environment/...

Beyond parody

Paging Danielle Smith and Brian Jean: “In 2005, former Alberta premier Peter Lougheed warned against sharing Canada's water supply with the United States, suggesting Alberta's most important resource was water, not oil and gas.” www.cbc.ca/news/canada/...

Americans are going to learn the hard way just how important government actually is in their lives.

Danielle Smith has driven a wedge into the "Team Canada" approach to Trump. Here's how Team Canada can bring her onboard -- and get her to support a tax on oil exports. #cdnpoli www.nationalobserver.com/2025/02/18/o...

This is all a game to The NY Times.

They're more concerned about not offending the "MAGA right" than defending their own country. Conservatives have suddenly cornered the market on self-loathing Canadians. Enjoy the fruits of your labours.

Not even six hours apart.

Something something free speech

I have read the entire statement of claim filed by Ms. Mentzelopoulos’ legal team. It’s a doozy. If you haven’t read it, you should. www.scribd.com/document/827... Of course, the government will respond, but Christ on a bike. A really long thread. 🧵 1/

Facts.....

i tell this story every time these old photos come up but: I remember in film school one of my classmates asked what about film chemistry in the 1970s caused everything shot in NYC to look so brown and grimy and our professor was like "that wasn't the film, that's just what the air looked like here"

Deputy AG Lionel Hutz quickly scribbling an ampersand onto it.

There you have it. The Economic Policy Uncertainty Index (www.policyuncertainty.com) just hit an all-time high, surpassing its previous high from May 2020 - the teeth of the #COVID pandemic. Consequences: worse investment climate, higher risk premia, (likely) higher interest rates...

Moron, psycho, invertebrate and crook:

I don’t understand why he’s still trying these dumb wedge issues when the country is publicly desperate for united patriotic leadership. He’s getting really bad advice right now. Or not listening to the advice he’s getting. Seriously.

History buffs will know that every authoritarian leader eventually converges on some version of: "I *am* the state. I can not break the law, I am the law, the law is instantiated in me." Our march to authoritarianism so far has been excruciatingly by-the-book. Hitting every beat. No surprises.

Over in the bad place I'm seeing a lot of the usual suspects -- convoy alumni, mostly -- sharing this Western Standard "story" about a failed oil and gas project and our environment minister's supposed culpability. Anyone see the problem here?

i don't think that line of thought ends well for mr trump

I hereby declare that "The Atlantic" magazine is now to be referred to as "The Pacific" magazine, and anyone who refuses to recognize this new name is dead to me.

One enduring problem with the American electorate is how millions of people convinced themselves the government plays no role in their economic situation except to tax and to hinder them while giving money to undeserving people.

If I had a nickel for every time that I found out I had a new half-sibling online, I'd have a few nickels- which isn't a lot but it's weird that it happened SIX SEPARATE TIMES 💀

like, this is just fucking insane. the government is pretending that it passed the Inverse Civil Rights Act overnight and everyone is acting like it's a real law.
