Where I live we studied it in grade school, and my educators were all white. We also studied all the lies of the reconstruction era and Jim Crow laws. I grew up in a blue state

Waltz is either an idiot or an asshole. Europe must know that if Ukraine falls Putin will keep going. The US I was born in is gone and may not ever come back. We can't be relied on

These women are why they're trying so hard to erase references to successful women everywhere they can. They want little girls to grow up uneducated, unambitious, weak, dependent - and hopefully fertile.

Her dad is MAGA and they joked about what might happen.

They can do anything no one stops them from doing. We've discovered that it's apparently not anyone's job to enforce checks and balances. And if the courts, congress, or the Justice dept have the power, exercising it is optional. No one in our govt is accountable.

"Manifold efforts" as in shaming unmarried women as leftovers, offering a little cash, attempting to restrict voluntary sterilization, but making no cultural changes that would make marriage and motherhood more appealing

Because it angers liberals. That's their religion.

If our legislature will stand up to Trump and Musk and defend the constitution, ok. Until then, I'm with Canada. My family is boycotting whatever we can that comes from red states. (Not that it matters since my tax money will bail them out)

Does legislation do anything if no one enforces it?
comment in response to post
If I research and try to keep discretionary purchasing to items from blue states only, would it just mean more of my tax money goes to bailing those states out? Because I could see economic impact being our new way to fight a civil war, but not if Trump/Musk just funnel our taxes to GOP strongholds

And I will continue to buy Canadian whiskey. I will not be switching to loyalty hootch

I'm good with this. If they can make it hurt enough to wake some people up possibly we can avoid learning our lesson in a more painful & lasting way

You give me hope

I have no words. Beyond imagination that the govt of the United States is obsessed with its citizens' genitals to the exclusion of anything else.

In the interest of world peace, is there any way we get South Africa to take Elon back? We've got enough going on with our US born megalomaniacs

He would've been challenged to a duel before he ever got to be president. And I doubt even in his prime he was a good shot

They're not going to wait until after he's re-elected and/or their Supreme Court grants him absolute immunity? Weird.

The people I've cut off have been reaching out telling me they miss me, I've always been the most reliable and empathetic friend. Well, I found out you're the thing I'm fighting against so...

They don't really care though. We're funneling money to various cronies for the service and feeding the fire of hatred we've built up among the ignorant masses. Keeps them distracted. As long as they can feast on "lib tears" they don't seem to mind their progressively more shitty lives

Amazing how quickly the country I was taught to be so proud of has turned into the evil empire

Which is why even though I'm an unaffiliated voter I don't think I could ever vote for a republican again. It's also why I've raised my sons to be very aware of the importance of supporting women as partners. The billionaires are not our friends

Thank you for speaking for us and trying to save the country

When I was a kid there was all that fiction about people being misled into selling their souls to the devil and then getting to get out of the deal. Now I just imagine them lining up at a gate marked "hell" and waiting their turn to put their souls into one of those TSA bins

If he didn't mean it he'd be making the rounds explaining himself and apologizing that we misunderstood. His silence and the media's days a lot
comment in response to post
In the olden days, if it was an accidental gesture the person who did it would be calling all the media outlets explaining and apologizing. His silence says a lot, as does the media silence/downplay

By attending the inauguration they're helping the illusion that there's continuity and stability in our govt. By skipping the lunch they're avoiding two hours of sitting among garbage and likely being fed some too.

Thank you for trying

When you took a tape out of the player you put it in any available case to protect it. Then at some point you had to sit down and open all of them to try to get them sorted out.

Sometimes I forget what a good guy that Jesus they taught me about was. "Love your neighbor as yourself" has gotten the weirdest interpretation these days

Because ignorant masses are more easily steered and will never compete with their children for jobs. They want the majority of people only qualified for low wage jobs. Keep them down, discontented, and convince them it's the other party's fault

Vacationed while the city burned? More like came back early from vacation as soon as the fires started. Now talk about all the republican reps flying out to Mara Lago after the fires started and staying there.

They cut their own off and handed them to him, but no regrets. They're following on the corruption train and they're all getting richer.

That he didn't get struck by lightning has me questioning my faith

He can do anything "they" don't stop him from doing. I keep asking why we didn't bring charges sooner so he would've been convicted, sentenced, and incarcerated before the election.

They're not terrified. They're all falling in line because as much as Trump makes us swallow, they figure they can each go about that far too. Trump can sell influence with impunity, so can they. They need money to put their grandkids in expensive private schools where they won't get shot

I'm having one of those parties you have after a funeral. We'll all wear black, eat casseroles, talk about how we loved our country and how sad it was that it got cancer
comment in response to post
Is this code talk for "We no longer have a democracy, the millionaires are sacking the country"? When I was young our teachers told us that checks and balances, free press, and ideals, would protect us. All lies.

I can tell I'm on bluesky because there are no comments blaming the governor for the wind

As if they aren't planning on fixing the elections. Come on now. They're not smart but they're more dishonest than they are stupid.

Quality is so iffy for products purchased online. I'm only buying clothes in brick and mortar stores now. It's getting so I'll have to do shopping trips to big cities a few times a year. Like my grandma used to do.

I'd like to see him prosecuted, in jail, and his property sold off. I'd like to see Jim Jordan bankrupt and living in a shelter. The Trump kids too.

Those are not stories to bring none happiness. People's homes burning, my neighbors electing the next Hitler plus the media glossing over his insane plans to conqueror the world. He's going to destroy us. Good morning.

When my children tell me they aren't going for leadership roles because they're not qualified, I point to all the dumbasses running our country. They're either dishonest or overconfident in their stupidity.

So it's socialism to expect leaders to follow constitutional procedures? Not buying it
