The body cam footage of the police visit to the Laundrie's is dodgy as fuck.

He really was. All of the comments I've been reading have talked about the ways Mark helped and encouraged people and it's so clear the impact he had.

Ooh congratulations! Looking forward to reading this.

If you work or are interested in #fanstudies you should definitely read Briony's book. We're told a paperback version will be out this summer. www.bloomsbury.com/uk/feminist-...

That's amazing! The horse you're on looks gorgeous too. I used to ride but don't live never the sea so have never done an ocean ride.

I'm extremely jealous of the house riding in the ocean!

It's a really nice shop and the people there have always been really friendly. Haha in that case I hope you sleep well and aren't disturbed by any housekeepers (alive or otherwise)!

I love Toppings! Though I never knew Bath had a haunted hotel (and I lived there for 8 years)!

I did! The big report is here screen-network.org.uk/publication/... and I've got a couple of articles soon to be published/in the works. It's a really interesting area of researchon general but I think the sustainability element is really important. Sadly I wasn't successful for Leverhulme with it.

about it in terms of nature fans but you're completely right. And requests on e.g. social media to avoid the area, etc. don't always get listened to.

I did some work on this when I was at York and I'd love to get funding to look into further and set up some sort of toolkit. It requires much more engagement with fan communities and an understanding of what might be some of the iconic film scenes (hard to tell in advance obviously). Hadn't thought

And it's not just the film shoots but the fan tourism that can come as a result. Dark Hedges in Northern Ireland and Freshwater West in Pembrokeshire are two really good (bad?) examples of that.

Yeah it might be more the case you could come over for a postdoc rather than the PhD itself. I know others have done their PhDs over here but I don't know the details to post any advice unfortunately.

Watching the episode where they cover Stephen's death is awful. The press coverage around it was absolutely despicable. I remember being gutted when I heard the news.

Haha I was a full on fan, saw them in Newport in 1994! They were the only boy band I ever liked and I loved Stephen.

It was. Cruel is the right word for it. It was so unnecessary and watching the documentary now is making me angry all over again.

Hearing about Stephen's struggle being gay is heartbreaking. When he was outed I wrote a letter to him via the fan club. I was like 17 and I've got no idea if he ever saw it but it made me so angry that he couldn't just be himself and was forced to tell people when he wasn't ready to.

Fucking hell, Louis Walsh made up a story that the Boyz were in a place crash in Australia and forgot to tell their families that there was no crash! That's absolutely horrific.

I really feel for Mikey watching this. Louis Walsh comes across like an absolute dick and really doesn't seem to care about the boys' wellbeing.

ME TOO! With the telly on in the background which I can't do in the office cos it's a frigging massive TV and it's about 3 inches behind where my laptop goes well 😭😂

At least in terms of UK funding calls. They don't do a lot around fan studies so unless you can get something like a Fullbright scholarship I think you'd have to self-fund. Having a look at past FSN North America conferences would give you an idea of US scholars though.

I'm not familiar with the application process in the US but I know there are fan studies scholars in various institutions (UT Austin and Central Florids spring to mind). It might be reaching out to them in the first instance. If you came to the UK chances of you getting funding are, I think, slim.

Yeah I really should go and use my proper desk rather than sitting downstairs. The only thing I haven't got up there is a wrist support. It's so frustrating having to push through and not be able to work (comfortably) in places other than my desk.

Hadn't even thought of that! Cheers for the suggestion.

Oh that's really useful, thank you! I'll take a look at this and see if doing the exercises will help.
