old Soviet joke for our times: Guy stops by the newsstand every day, scans the front page, doesn’t buy the paper. One day the vendor asks what he’s up to. Guy says: “looking for an obituary.” Vendor says “those are towards the back of the paper, comrade.” Guy says: “not the one I’m looking for.”

“It was one of those March days when the sun shines hot and the wind blows cold: when it is summer in the light, and winter in the shade.” ― Charles Dickens, Great Expectations #WetTribe #TidetotheOcean #Surfing #Sunday #March

9 months old baby horse sees sea for the first time

From ancient Caledonian pinewoods to soaring golden eagles, there’s so much to love about nature. 🌿❤️ But Scotland remains one of the most nature-depleted countries in the world - and it doesn't have to be this way. Rewilding can breathe new life into our landscapes 💚 Repost if you agree!

This video will make your day ❤️🐿

Sobering reality! 🐝

A collector's item with the Shipping Forecast for Rockall as Storm Eowyn approaches giving not just Hurricane force 12 winds, but Sea State = Phenomenal (waves >14m). Terrifying!

Did your Green Sandpipers survive the January cold snap? Northern UK sites may well be on the edge when it comes to winter survival. More here: wadertales.wordpress.com/2019/01/18/w... #ornithology

This hut in Norway was not 1km from the road, at the edge of a tourist town. Built by the council with multiuser path suitable for buggies. No overnight stays but not locked. Fire bowls if you bring your own fuel. Books to read. Clean up after yourself. Can we have nice things in Scotland too? Hmm.

Ben Goldsmith on the question of the lynx. An excellent piece. bengoldsmith.substack.com/p/scotlands-...

"UK Conservation has a woodland birds problem - it is not just Willow Tits that now look on a path to UK extinction, several other of our woodland bird species now look likely to become some of the next species to disappear from Britain..." Worth a read 👇 #birds #extinction #nature #wildlife 🪶🌿

Poggies on for winter paddling... But worth to get out.

Picked this up thinking it a watercolour but it turned out to be an embroidery c.1932. Given a new lease of life - we love it. Low cost high value.

A single 400-year-old ancient oak produces 234,000 litres of oxygen a year while soaking up carbon dioxide, and can support more than 2,000 species of bird, insect, fungus, and lichen. Nature is amazing - we need more of it, not less. Please repost if you agree 🌳

Trillions of minute plastic particles, called microplastics, pollute the world’s oceans, primarily originating from the continuous flow of plastic waste from land to sea Credit: We Animals

Our most read stories of 2024: In April we revealed that a plastic offsetting project – the first & biggest of its kind – backed by Danone was suspended following allegations that a recycling facility was built illegally close to a Balinese community. Danone withdrew from the project last week.

Meet Jeremy Clarkson. He’s used his show Clarkson’s Farm to blame badgers for spreading bTB and has reportedly shot all the badgers on his land. He’d absolutely hate it if you shared this and signed the petition to end the badger cull 👇https://petition.parliament.uk/petitions/700317

Jaw dropping double standards. When laws are written by lobbyists of vested interests to target only climate protest to the exclusion of others is unconscionable. Where is the press outrage? Why is the current government complicit in the Tufton St agenda?

Monitoring farmland birds in winter last week. Good numbers of Yellowhammer, Reed Bunting and Tree Sparrow, Snipe, Grey Partridge and this delightful high rise House Sparrow residence at Red Hall Farm.

The Cormorants of One Tree Island.

Of all the concepts that humankind needs to absorb + act on with extreme urgency, this tops the list.

Fiery coat amongst fiery foliage . A tricky one today . Thank you @WebbyJamesHere on Twitter for sharing #FoxOfTheDay

Dropping your H’s Friends mother in law was regularly heard to say, “Just going to get the ‘ens h’eggs in the h’Audi” when she went to feed the chickens.

As I only came on board at bluesky today I’ve missed the first 3 days of #ArtAdventCalendar but this is for day 4 😊 made of wool and natural fibres on canvas.

High tide roost when the beach is cut off and these Curlew snooze and blend so well.

Who makes those tracks in the meadow? - there are no sheep and few Badgers here. The Hare & the Roe Deer. If you enjoy my clips then it would be great if you could reSky them. Video clips are not yet picked up in Feeds here & so it's difficult to get them seen. Thank you #ukwildlife #hares #nature

We cannot sit by and let this happen. Please REPOST and sign if you're against the cull: petition.parliament.uk/petitions/70...

Summer days on a post-industrial beach. Therapeutic down time.

I don't think you can get spare parts now! (Edinburgh Royal Botanic Gardens)

Ten thousand 🙏 to everyone who has signed our petition to ban driven grouse shooting! The Govt will now have to respond. But we're not finished yet - we want a parliamentary debate and for that we need 100,000 signatures. Can you help us reach our target? petition.parliament.uk/petitions/70...
