Everyday normal for Canadian cities. Two pedestrians struck, one in her 70's died. Big shrug of shoulders: We don't know who's at fault but oh driver remained on scene. We will likely hear no more. Basic facts on why crossing roads is so dangerous for seniors ignored www.ctvnews.ca/toronto/loca...

Not sure this qualifies as "opinion"? More fact calgaryherald.com/opinion/colu...

BREAKING: Cars announce ambitious plan to reduce congestion. #BikeTO #TOPoli www.thestar.com/news/gta/a-c...

Technology mimics drivers who both have a blind spot for pedestrians and cyclists, whatever we wear www.independent.co.uk/tech/honda-m...

still controversial throughout North America

The City of Fredericton have a Valentines Day card for their roundabout. All good unless you are a senior using a walker who needs to get to the other side, or anyone else with mobility limitations www.facebook.com/photo?fbid=1...

📢 Who Do Streets Serve When Cars Come Before Children? 🚸 Car-centric planning = neglecting children. Many children can’t walk or bike safely, meaning they miss out on independence, outdoor play and education. 🔗 Read more in our latest blog in our Freedom to Move series: https://buff.ly/4bf4JY5

"Police said the modifications included suspension lifts, oversized tires and tinted windows, and made driving in a crowded parking lot at a busy mall unsafe" All of this should be illegal everywhere globalnews.ca/news/1101447...

Two elderly pedestrians struck and killed along Wilson Avenue in the past two weeks. Paint crosswalks alone along wide and fast roads are woefully insufficient, but these avoidable tragedies continue to be labelled "unfortunate accidents" www.cbc.ca/news/canada/...

There's been an uptick in people driving colliding into people walking. It has caused death or life altering injuries to the people walking. So the Calgary Police issued an advisory focussing on what things people walking should do differently. #Calgary #yyccc newsroom.calgary.ca/media-adviso...

Essential read: What if decision-makers (engineers, politicians) did not just review fatal incidents on a spreadsheet, but instead see their faces, learn their names and read about their lives in Obituaries? www.halifaxexaminer.ca/these-are-so...

so if we house the homeless we don't need draconian pointless laws that criminalise the homeless without achieving anything at all, well I never globalnews.ca/news/1097995...

While we're glad an arrest was made in this hit-and-run, we know it won’t be the last tragedy here. This intersection sees 54 crashes every year. Pedestrians must cross 5 lanes of traffic on Canada Way + a slip lane on Burris. @cityofburnaby.bsky.social, it's time to fix this dangerous design.

Three siblings struck in Lethbridge crosswalk It’s shameful that we allow such dangerous conditions to exist in residential neighbourhoods in Alberta. #TrafficViolence #motonormativity

three children in Calgary — ages 14, seven and five — hit at the intersection of 13 Avenue and 23 Street North while in a marked crosswalk. Investigation ongoing, no arrest made. globalnews.ca/news/1096836...

Two pedestrian fatalities in Calgary so far in 2025, and another incident involving a garbage truck driver turning left on green, requiring an 18 year old to have her foot amputated. No word on charges. Left on green while the walk sign is on should be illegal calgaryherald.com/news/local-n...

SUVs are decimating emissions reductions *and* safe streets efforts 'The report found vehicle upsizing has wiped out 39 per cent of fuel consumption reductions Canada would have seen from increased zero-emissions vehicle sales and fuel economy improvements.' davidsuzuki.org/story/car-cu...

So much to unpack from this Calgary Sun article about the tragic death of 17 year old Amy Tran, who was killed by a driver as she walked home from school. #TrafficViolence #motonormativity

Not only are cars weapons, but they make the occupants dehumanize (and as demonstrated assault and sometimes murder) those people outside their protective cage. It is disgusting that our society is okay with this.

I guess if pedestrians were cuter, they wouldn't hit us.

who will investigate the investigators who believe the vehicle drove off and fled the scene all by itself, leaving an elderly woman critically injured? www.msn.com/en-ca/news/w...

First city to adopt congestion pricing in Canada? Montreal?

ready for next level victim blaming? Remember the "car" turned into you because you were wearing universally worn dark clothing. And if struck on the sidewalk, maybe you weren't far enough from the road? rcmp.ca/en/bc/safety...

With just a little guidance, we can empower everyone to ride, no matter their abilities. This young rider hesitated all class, but in the last 5 minutes, she hopped on the fun Mobo - She rode it back to school! Join us in supporting confidence through biking! #InclusiveRiding #YouthenRoute #Confiden

Incredible this is the first congestion charge in N. America and it has taken so long. But NY will not look back now. For comparison, London's congestion charge costs double for cars. nyc.streetsblog.org/2025/01/05/c...

Basically the same article, except not the Onion. “Car buyers who purchase an SUV or truck “to protect themselves” are turning safety into a zero-sum game, with pedestrians and cyclists paying the price.” slate.com/business/202...

Not just the bike lane ban, but it's part of a bigger picture. A comprehensive, very well organised and readable breakdown of how Ford is reshaping and breaking down sound environmental policies and actions, from @thenarwhal.ca thenarwhal.ca/ontario-envi...

"While protected bike lanes have transformed Olympic host cities like Paris and London, politicians are currently trying to rip out bike lanes in Toronto that have been a part of the city's streets for almost a decade" Embarrassing www.bbc.com/news/article...

"In rejecting an injunction, which would have put the Jan. 5 congestion pricing launch on hold, Judge Liman made clear he does not see how the plaintiffs would be adversely impacted by tolls that will reduce traffic, speed up commutes and deliveries & improve the air, the economy and public transit"

Holland "defeated" the car. Except they didn't. Car ownership continues to rise and the tiny country has 9 million of them, vs 26 million in vast Canada. Obviously people use them = why Park & Ride and congestion zoning is even more important than the bike lanes. longreads.cbs.nl/the-netherla...

This is an everyday occurrence in Calgary… Driver hits person walking in a crosswalk, then @calgaryherald.com writes an exonerative toned article. #calgary - truck hit pedestrian - speed not a factor - driver remained on scene calgaryherald.com/news/pedestr...

Great to see the City remaining committed to these signs and looking at stronger measures to lower damage rate. #Calgary www.cbc.ca/news/canada/...

"There was a study done not that long ago in 2018 from some complaints back then and the pedestrian count didn't warrant traffic lights at that time, and the incident reporting didn't warrant it that time either" Same reasoning doesn't apply to overengineered roads calgary.ctvnews.ca/widow-of-ped...

P1: Ok we need a vehicle to move some kids to school P2: How about a bus? P1: Perfect. P2: Lets make it big and yellow so no one misses it P1: Great 1/
