Recent English lit PhD thinking about the intersections of pop culture & violence against women. I love cats, romance novels, pop music, and buying too many planners.

what the right is offering young men is the subjugation of women in lieu of any material gains for men. that, like many components of fascism, feels very immediately rewarding to some people. it’s not something you can easily replicate on the left.

So excited to finally watch this one!

Reducing these women’s accomplishments to their ages is weird and part of the problem tbhhh

There are obvious demographics of women who don’t consistently win Oscars but it’s not actually based on age, guys. Halle Berry remains the only Black woman to win Best Actress. Michelle Yeoh is the only Asian woman. I loved The Substance but some of you are taking it too literally.

And I feel like it was even a smart brief—like differentiate oneself from the character since it’s a breakout role, kinda like when Jennifer Lawrence went bombshell glam post Winter’s Bone. But yeah the execution really fell flat.

I feel like I understand the concept, going for a retro sort of Audrey Hepburnesque thing, but the actual dress is just not good, nor does it appear to be tailored properly.

It’s pretty divisive. I loved it, largely bc the performances were excellent and it was imo pretty brilliantly edited, but I know other people whose opinions I respect who strongly disliked it, and I can totally see their point. Mikey Madison was pretty phenomenal though.

Just wish Mikey had chosen a better dress for tonight!!

I can’t lie, Ariana’s Schiaparelli is incredible. Cynthia Erivo’s gown is great but not my favorite look from her this season. I also think Elle Fanning looks impeccable. I’m still scrolling through though so lots I haven’t seen yet.

I also love Carrie Coon and every scene with her and her friends triggers my fight or flight response.

All of the main actors on Severance would deserve Emmy noms, everyone is killing it, but honestly even amongst such great performances, Tramell Tillman and John Turturro are stealing the show.
