«But subsequent archaeological research has revealed that money’s emergence as part of an overall institutional framework cannot be understood without reference to written account-keeping, denominating debt accruals, and fiscal relations.(...)»

The US was the sole UN member state to vote NO on a resolution declaring an International Day of Hope

🧵 This is a perfect example of what I've be describing as disordered discourse, and it's threat to democracy. Politicians are afraid to speak openly about key issues. Why? Because disordered discourse has captured the system itself—forcing obedience, punishing dissent, and making truth irrelevant.

The MAGA regime has now Ukrainian blood on their hands.

A very informative meme.

Federal government agencies have flagged hundreds of words to limit or avoid, including clean energy, climate crisis, climate science, environmental quality, and pollution. These words literally refer to the quality of our life support system on Earth.

7 months ago today I bombed that kids hospital in Kiev. But as Trump says, "it's what anyone would do".

The Commerce Department just made it easier for states and municipalities to use government subsidies to buy Musk’s Starlink internet service. When Musk's many ethics conflicts are tallied up, it will make Warren G. Harding’s Teapot Dome scandal look like a game of checkers.

Gift link. Read all about it. www.nytimes.com/2025/03/07/u...

Putin has been very successful with DOGE. It causes enormous & swift damage to the US. Russia could not accomplish that much by bombing the U.S. & it does not even appear guilty. Trump is Putin’s obedient servant.

If anyone's interested in what the PT central bank governor has to say, the interview is in EN.

Alarm bells for anyone using US technology to stop doing so asap. With the erratically led US government that companies fear or want to suck upto, it may be weaponized or disabled in the blink of an eye ↘️

We can only imagine what is happening to the data that Musk' ninjas have taken control of.

I wrote about Canada's corporations hitting a new profit milestone. They have the elevated markups claimed during the pandemic to thank. Altogether, higher markups have allowed them to claim an EXTRA $741 billion over the last four years.

French Senator Claude Malhuret: "Washington has become Nero’s court, with an incendiary emperor, submissive courtiers and a jester high on ketamine. (...) We were at war with a dictator, we are now at war with a dictator backed by a traitor" #3E #EndOligarchy

Genius, fantastic, massive, huge.

Mr. Merz is a “throwback figure”: “committed to tax breaks for the wealthy, harsh restrictions for migrants and cuts for welfare recipients”, and the popularizer of “Leitkultur, a set of norms to which every immigrant should submit”.

Former 🇺🇸 ambassador to Russia 👇🏽

Did they give read and write access to a Musk minion?

Monday's blog post (03/03) is now posted (15:16 EAST) - Britain can easily increase military expenditure while increasing ODA to honour its international obligations - billmitchell.org/blog/?p=62391 #mmt

If you worked for 18F and got fired, Group together to start a consulting company. It’s just a matter of time before DOGE needs you to fix the mess they inevitably create. They will have to hire your company as a contractor to fix it. But on your terms. I’m happy to invest and/or help

OTD in 2022 we bombed the Babi Yar holocaust memorial. We are denazifying Ukraine by bombing holocaust memorials and killing holocaust survivors. Ukraine ofc deserves this for provoking us by putting their border near our army.

Hey, Europe! A heads up on future UK plans of Modern Money Lab. We plan to do UK versions of our two interactive weekends in London - Rethinking Capitalism (21/22 June) and Modern Money and The Deficit Myth (28/29 June). Details to follow, but I hope people would like to come to either or both.

Great work by @westervangaal.bsky.social on just how shoddy the empirical arguments for the new deregulation drive are

Senator Chris Murphy: "The White House has become an arm of the Kremlin." True.

Most money for US aid to Ukraine went to US manufacturers. It is literally American industry, and part of the funding was for expanding US industrial capacity. It's next level lying. Lies wrapped in lies, stacked in a pile of BS. Reality inverting lies. Piss-on-my-leg-and-tell-me-it's-raining lying.

If you are the kind of person who is reflexively angered at the sight of someone looting a $2,000 TV during a riot, well this plundering of the FAA amid fires across the federal government is Elon Musk walking out of the Best Buy with a $2.4 billion TV.

#ICYMI: The confidential personal information of hundreds of thousands of alleged victims of housing discrimination, including victims of domestic violence, is now in DOGE’s hands. By @jessecoburn.bsky.social

I once met a Chinese colleague in one of the companies I've worked for. I asked him what he thought about the Chinese system. He immediately took me out of the open office into the stairs and told me very very quietly: "Everything is absolutely fine as long as you don't question the government".

"CMIP6 models show that the Earth likely will reach 2°C of global warming by the 2040s without significant policy changes" agupubs.onlinelibrary.wiley.com/doi/10.1029/...

This is the most right wing newspaper in the UK. Extraordinary.

If DOGE is a federal agency, it can’t shield its records from the public. If it’s not an agency, then its tens of millions of dollars in funding weren’t legally allocated and should be returned, some contend.

SCOOP: Elon's favorite anon data expert, who's been appearing on NewsNation in sunglasses, isn't a govt. spending expert but rather a senior employee at an AI lending firm that's battled the CFPB for years. Me at @rollingstone.com www.rollingstone.com/politics/pol...
