My little old mum is coming to visit tomorrow, which is very lovely and exciting, but I made the foolish error of offering to meet her off the bus from the ferry. She'll be arriving at around 8.30AM, which isn't too bad unless you're aware that I generally go to bed around 4AM and sleep til noon 🙃

If a short fiction outlet can't respond to your submission in 1 month (2 max, if your story was 2nd-rounded) then they should accept simultaneous submissions, because otherwise they're just holding stories hostage. I've had prescient stories become merely relevant waiting for a 9-month rejection.

I did a whole talk about this for the Audio Drama Convention run by podcastbookclub. The problem isn't that the community doesn't like BIPOC characters or actors, it's that many don't try to seek them out. Many simply go with what's presented to them, and those are often White Male driven shows.
