He has done well in other crises too, and agree that this is his finest hour. History will probably be kind to his record. Of course he has flaws and failures, but his loyalty to Canada is never in doubt - unfortunately we can't say that about some of our other political "leaders".

The people in that Vermont ski town seem to think they can still protest. The lawyers fighting in court seem to think they can win. The ones helping tank Tesla stocks. You could still stage a general strike, or a million person march. Probably a million other things acting together.

It's remarkable to watch Americans citizens surrender to shadows without putting up a fight. You have power, even now. This is not over. On our side of the border, Canadians at every level are fighting back at the Trump bullies. Our defiant acts are individually small, but together we're gonna win.

If the cartel is larger than 50 people, the language police can read their emails to make sure they're not communicating in English

Maybe we don't embargo anything. BUT, first our border agents have gotta make sure the electricity, nickel or potash export doesn't contain fentanyl. It's gonna take AWHILE, they're real backed up. And then the Fentanyl Tsar's gotta personally verify they didn't miss anything. Could take months.

Excellent piece, thank you. Minister Joly, her colleagues and our Prime Minister have been impressive in the middle of all this chaos and it's interesting to read more details about the Team Canada effort no matter what the result will turn out to be.

Maybe it's because Putin is about to lose the war and his only hope is to get Trump and Vance (who he has kompromat on) to force Ukraine to its knees in humiliation ASAP. Which they just failed to do.

I think Putin is desperate to end the war, so is piling pressure on Vance and Trump who work for him. They hoped to ritually humilate Zelensky in the Oval Office, with Russian state media filming it. So when they couldn't get Zelensky to sign the deal & win the war for Russia, they freaked out.

Truly heartbreaking to watch, and another awful injustice for the heroic Ukrainians and their leader to bear. But maybe a hopeful sign that Putin is truly desperate and was piling the pressure on Trump and Vance to get that deal done?

I didn't sign it until just now. If he thinks we're not a real country, he doesn't deserve our passport.

Canada and our freedom-loving allies should make a Seldon Plan pretty damn quick.

You're just getting ahead of the curve - once Trump says there is no more gold in Fort Knox and the world economy collapses, the only stable investments will be Lego sets and hens.

The framing is still too neutral. We're not taking this insulting talk from him laying down. We're up in arms. There's no room for anyone with a positive opinion. Canada is a sovereign nation. Talk of taking us over against our will is a declaration of war. Treat it seriously.

we are incredibly nervous about the danger of the present moment and the risks of normalizing the threats, and our national broadcaster's initial phrasing and apparent desire to normalize the debate with American input makes us unwilling to give the benefit of the doubt.
