It's because they never bothered to try to understand why the rebellion existed. They like the aesthetics of the rebel underdog but their entire thought process is "I'm the same as Luke Skywalker because I'm not doing what the government says" with no further literary analysis or introspection.

Honestly it's probably just part of getting older. I loved Legos as a kid and I still do, but now when I get a LEGO set I often catch myself immediately putting it on a display shelf after building it. It's much harder now for me to tap into the imagination I had as a kid.

Well that's probably because most of what we've seen of him has been when he's terrified of losing his job and/or getting killed. Hopefully Andor S2 will show us more background and explain more of why everyone hates him so much.
