Scripts were commissioned, but not produced. Ian insists that Saward gave him a copy of the story breakdown, even though Holmes was never commissioned or paid to produce one! He says he managed to lose it somewhere, so his entire 4½ hour recreation all comes from his "photographic memory".

You won't see either of them as neither has any surviving material relating to them.

Because that's what the Santa Fe County Sheriff has stated.

It was rather weird a year or so ago when I was in Frank Gillard and I was going through a file and I found myself reading a 60-year-old memo written by Frank as his big head stared over my shoulder watching me! 🙂

Ah yes. Very familiar. Sometimes I'm in Frank Gillard when I visit, but usually, it's Una Marson. The one without any windows. 🙂

If you look on the War Machines DVD, you'll find a PDF of Ray London's final design drawing that was sent to Shawcraft for the build. It was adapted slightly, but it notes there that it was going to be pushed from inside.

The two people inside just walked them around. They’re like oversized Daleks.

Yes, they're both on the DVD of The Android Invasion.

It's a really fun piece that covers pretty much everything with a great visual style. Stuart's done a great job on this. 🙂

Priest told me in 1990: “If the phone call from Nathan-Turner in 1981 was (and remains) the single most unpleasant conversation in my life, then his grovelling letter of apology is probably the one that caused the loudest cries of joy and triumph.”

As far Eric Saward’s fan reply goes, it’s worth pointing out that he didn’t twice use the word “novelists” but “novalists” – what Priest described to me as being Saward’s “radical approach to spelling”!

demanding yet another full rewrite and telling Priest that he had to come into the office for four days to work on it – all without pay - that things broke down. So, it wasn’t that Priest didn’t get paid for the scripts – he did. It was over payment for rewrites out-of-contract that was in dispute.

There was evidently no friction with Priest as he was recontracted for The Enemy Within (which included the death of Adric) just 8 weeks later. Revisions were also required here and Priest rewrote the entire script, as directed. It was when JNT contacted him again 86 days after initial delivery
comment in response to post
Contractually, the BBC only had 56 days after delivery to be able to request rewrites before additional money had to be paid. As rewrites were being discussed well over this period the decision seems to be that they wouldn’t take it any further on that basis.

Nice coverage, Josh. There is a bit more to it than you explain though. There's real no indication of any real friction over Sealed Orders. With the introduction of the E-Space concept, the whole background of the story needed to change and Priest was asked to perform a complete rewrite.

Even though it was fully scripted and he got paid in full for the work, Robin has absolutely no memory whatsoever about Ghost Planet.

Does the recovery also manage to restore Taltalian's lost accent as well in his film sequence?
comment in response to post
I am! Do let me know. 😀

People assumed that he had the 13 minute 16mm clip from Episode 2 that ended up at the BFI. That isn’t true either!
comment in response to post
No, purely made up.

The thing is, she never said any such thing!

Nah. Ian never looks at the paperwork other than his own schoolboy notebooks. He's afraid that it might tell him something contrary to the way he wants things to be.

The theme for Dixon was certainly pretty appalling by then. Very Ronnie Hazlehurst in nature. Mind you, wasn't Dixon being still being produced by Light Entertainment due to the way Warner's contracts worked at the BBC?

It’s also worth pointing out that a few years ago, the person concerned also believed that the material from the 1982 BBC Christmas tape of Davison larking around on the Captain Zep set was from 13 minutes of material that had been shot for an abandoned fifth Doctor story.
comment in response to post
It was indeed. The relationship ended very quickly.
comment in response to post
It was much the same at all the venues.

It's mainly the commissioning paperwork for the Brian Wright and Dennis & Charlotte Plimmer stories, but you'll also find full Pertwee/de Rouen uncommissioned outline for The Brain Drain/Spare-Part People idea there as well.

No idea. The sales side is nothing to do with us.

And what's the female love interest/protagonist's name going to be?
comment in response to post
Yes, unfortunately, the production file for Wheel is just full of the PasB documents from Spearhead through to Colony in Space and absolutely nothing on the story itself.

Proud of you, mate!
