NABSW is committed to uplifting and advocating for Black communities while adhering to social work’s values & ethics. Under Williams’ leadership, the organization grew to 80 chapters in the U.S. with affiliates in South Africa, the Caribbean & Canada.

These Black social work leaders include NYU Silver alum Cenie J. Williams, Jr. (1939-1983), MSW ’68, the first elected president of the National Association of Black Social Workers from 1970-74 and its executive director from 1974-1982.

A noted scholar in child & adolescent mental health, Dean Lindsey is a member of the NYC Board of Health and serves on the NYS Office of Mental Health Suicide Prevention Task Force. He is also an Aspen Health Innovators Fellow & is President of the American Academy of Social Work & Social Welfare.
