AI I can get behind :)

I want this, except for a savoury and spicy cheese scone or similar :)

This is astounding. It shows Albertans paid double - sometimes triple! - for surgeries at private surgical facilities connected to friends of the UCP than through AHS. And the Premier’s staff & Health Minister allegedly pressured & then fired the CEO of AHS when she asked questions about them.

It’s quite shameful that our car safety regulators don’t have simple rules like the UK has to ensure that a passenger vehicle driven by non professionals doesn’t break basic safety rules

All this hockey jingoism is bringing back memories of India Pakistan cricket from the 80s, countries that actually killed each others people in wars playing sports while millions took it so personally. In the end, the cricket had zero impact on the geopolitics because guess what, it’s just a game

People are always shocked when I say that I experienced the absolute worst hatred and violence during my 4 years of long-distance commuting in Toronto than any time else (including the tens of thousands of violent things people have said to me over the years online)

Oooh, Justin be in “edgy to the core” North Park for a slide show :) #yyj

TFW when two paragraphs into writing a post on the current state of climate change mitigation, you stop in horror as you just recreated Parable of the Sower :(

www.oliveridley.org/2025/02/16/t... Donald Shoup, the man who opened our eyes on parking ridiculousness around us died recently and I thought I should write about free neighbourhood parking in Victoria, and remind myself that I have a blog :) #yyj

Was not aware of this job action

When I was a kid I was under the naive impression that try is is what happened at the UN, that world leaders got together to solve problems (yeah other than the whole Cold War thing), what a world we live in today where we spend more time attacking trans people than solving existential crises

New study implicates copper inhalation from car brake pads as even worse than diesel fumes. This isn't great, but the good news is that there are immediate fixes that can reduce the harm, and longer term switch to EVs that use regen braking rather than brake pads. Either way, driving is unhealthy :(

Yikes, once again, police are not mental health professionals and should not be doing "wellness checks" unless there's a a weapon involved, in which case they need to hang behind a mental health professional while they do the actual work

Yes! So happy this program is around in Victoria #yyj remember to put CLCR - 250-818-2454 into your contacts!

Quick review from my 8 yo of the 2025 calendar from @laurelcollins.bsky.social we received in the mail today “9 dogs, 2 cats and 1 bunny, not fair!”

Saw a VicPD car yesterday flash their emergency lights for one second to execute an illegal turn, then just turn their lights off and keep going. Have lost count of how many times I've seen these. Our entire system is too conflicted to enforce basic safety rules against traffic violence

Finally, now these oversized ocean RVs can stop burning dirty fuel into victoria #yyj

"Filipino health-care workers are feeling helpless, worried, confused and like they’re being used as political pawns" The cruelty and arbitrariness of Canada's recent immigration will severely affect our already strained healthcare system by @thetyee.ca

www.theguardian.com/world/2025/f... as this disaster of escaped farm salmon carrying disease that can wipe out wild salmon unfolds in Europe, a reminder that Canada was supposed to phase out open ocean “farms” but Gov’t delayed that to 2029, and unclear if this date will actually be met
