Square Enix Manga & Books Team Up With Penguin Random House to Launch Comic Partner Initiative @square-enix-books.com

Ever think about improving your beginner's Japanese reading comprehension through children's picture books? You can build vocab and find enchanting illustrations along the way in Timothy to Sarah no Paatii. mainichi.jp/english/arti...

Does anyone else in anime press circles get this? We get detailed press releases from Japanese PR firms with assets and a press release in English for a new show. Lots of details, except how to actually watch the show. Where is it streaming?! Help us PR firm! It’s a repeat pattern for us!

Katsuhiro Otomo ("Akira") will be Naoki Urasawa's guest on his next "Manben Neo" show :-] Broadcast March 29 on NHK in Japan. www.nhk.jp/p/manben/ts/...

Some concept arts from "The Twilight World" french/german animated feature project directed by Werner Herzog (Psyop / Sun Creature). Story: Michael Arias ("Tekkonkinkreet") & Luca Vitale. Visual development: Linnea Serte & Katsuya Terada.

Some good stuff: My team's working on English editions of The Art of Witch Hat Atelier (a hardcover originally created for Shirahama-sensei's visit to Angoulême earlier this year) and the Witch Hat Atelier Coloring Book! kodansha.us/2025/03/19/w...

The exhibit is at the Seibu Shibuya department store until March 31. fast.animenewsnetwork.com/feature/2025...

30 years later, I still can't watch this without reciting Trish Ledoux's singable English lyrics. Rewritten lyrics are from a bygone era, but I'd be lying if I said I didn't miss them sometimes. Very few did them as well as she did, though.

Agreed... there's something about being FIRMLY from the era of having to hang out with an asshole you despise because they're the local tape god, and therefore your connection to new stuff, while existing today, where anime is just a part of the background noise of everyday life. It's just wild.

Aniplex and Crunchyroll establish Hayate, a Tokyo-based joint venture for anime production:

We’ve just been to the 18th Manga Jiman competition at the Japanese Embassy in London. Yet again we’re really impressed by the quality of the entries. #MangaJiman

Spotted on the London Underground at a very prominent platform at Piccadilly Circus. #Totoro

Exploring "Gunbuster’s" Roots in Shojo - Dawn H. explores Gainax's 1988 OVA, Gunbuster, and the way the series draws from classic shojo works. In particular, she looks at how the series derived many of its beats and themes from 1973 tennis anime, Aim for the Ace! #anime #shojo

We’re in the Embassy of Japan, in London for the Manga Jiman Awards.

LOVE the posters for @gkids.com's IMAX release of Princess Mononoke!

It'll be interesting to see what happens in the US, where so many comics are seen as collectible and not disposable. We haven't seen the big switch to digital, but I assume it's more lack of a good digital option as opposed to interest.

This is the grim reality of what a of of us independent outlets are facing, and why we've all been hammering how important it is for subscribers to back your favorites. Ads stopped working ages ago; affiliate programs are dead. We're at a point where our subscribers determine if we're sustainable.

Worth the trip of London just to spot the Ado tour poster

Interesting article featuring @jamiesmart.bsky.social and the rise in popularity of manga with young readers.

I've read some fantastic articles on media localization in the last year. Some on manga translation and lettering, on how some English-based games were handled in other languages, and even on how to criticise translation in media. Highly recommend all of these! j-entranslations.com/media-transl...

We’ve just received our copy of the French Edition of the Witch Hat Atelier artbook (L'Atelier des Sorciers - L'Art des Sorciers: L'artbook). It’s 99% artwork. There’s hardly any text in it. Kamome Shirahama’s artwork is amazing. It’s such a beautiful book.

Apropos of nothing, I'm just going to remind people looking for translation services that you should hire HUMANS and these humans should be happy to guarantee that they are translating, not editing machine output.

You know who is influential AS FUCK? Waaaaaay more than Junji Ito. Daijiro Mohoroshi. This is the guy whose work inspired Miyazaki, Hajime Isayama, Tanabe Gou... He is the quintessential "artist's artist."
