Amazing day of protests across America as millions showed up in over 1,300 cities and towns. So many amazing signs it was hard to choose, but these were my favorite 15. open.substack.com/pub/meidasto...

Right now, there’s an important race happening that will shape the Wisconsin Supreme Court for the next 10 years. Judge Susan Crawford is ready to protect the fundamental rights and freedoms of all Wisconsinites. Make a plan to vote early today — don’t wait until April 1st: wisdems.org/vote

UEA has helped shape global climate policy 🌍, from IPCC contributions to leading the GCB. As we reach this crucial point, action is vital so join us on 8-10 September at the Critical Decade for Climate Action Conference: tyndall.ac.uk/events/criti... #Tyndall25UEA #CriticalDecade #ClimateChange

His track record speaks for itself. While we continue to resist, we should take comfort in that he is deeply incompetent, not very bright & his policies are hurting even his most devoted supporters. Let's not get in the way of his inevitable self-destruction.

So good. 👏👏

"We in America have learned bitter lessons from two World Wars...The strength of America's allies is vital to the United States, and the American security guarantee is essential to the continued freedom of Europe's democracies." - Ronald Reagan

Dear Volodymyr Zelenskyy, dear Ukrainian friends, you are not alone.

Veterans Crisis Line workers have been fired. Suicide prevention training is being canceled. The system meant to save lives is being gutted—because Trump and Musk care more about their war on government than they do about Veterans. DOGE screws Veterans!

Rubio terminated 5800 USAID contracts – more than 90% of its foreign aid programs – in defiance of the courts. Here’s a list of just some of the lifesaving awards that were terminated. Nearly all were Congressionally mandated. They’ve saved millions of lives. 🧵

Nearly all Republicans vote against conditioning tax cuts to the wealthy

Ex-presidents' silence on Trump dismays some Democrats: Former Presidents Clinton, Obama, Biden and George W. Bush have barely uttered a word about President Trump's actions a month into his second term, to the dismay of Democratic critics who say their voices are badly needed. Those calling out…

Can someone show this to the 🍊 ass!

The head of the Autism, ADHD, and Externalizing Disorders Interventions Research Program at the National Institute of Mental Health was fired over the weekend, 21 days shy of the end of her one year probationary period. She posted about it on fb.

That Trump is now calling Pres. Zelensky a “dictator” and it talked the U.S. into spending $350 billion (a lie) for a war Ukraine started (another disgusting lie) should remind you the White House occupant is mentally deranged and must be opposed at all times.

I escaped poverty because I am a scientist. And I am a scientist because of the National Science Foundation. A 🧵:

He’s right again.

USAID has been fighting disease, feeding children, and promoting goodwill around the world for six decades. As this article makes clear, dismantling this agency would be a profound foreign policy mistake - one that Congress should resist. t.co/MSsgZ82QbX

Concerned about the devastating effect of the cut to NIH indirect costs (from >60% at many to 15% for all) on US biomedical research that takes effect tomorrow? Phone the Committee on Health, Education, Labor, and Pensions (HELP), Chaired by Senator Bill Cassidy TOMORROW morning at 202-224-6770.

The leading Afrikaner advocacy groups in South Africa say they are appreciative of President Trump’s efforts on their behalf but they say they refuse to move and they are also pushing back against sanctions against South Africa.

USAID supports Missouri Ag producers. I hope you’ll share… #USAIDrural

This article--on the systematic dismantling of the NIH, NSF, and CDC--is a must-read not only for researchers and clinicians but for anyone who has ever gotten a vaccine, taken medication, read the results of a research study, or gotten tested for Covid, flu, or STIs. www.science.org/content/blog...

Today is World Wetlands Day. But what exactly are wetlands, and just how important are they for nature in Scotland? Find out in today's blog: https://community.rspb.org.uk/ourwork/b/scotland/posts/world-wetlands-day-2025

Today's reality check.... #EatTheRich #They'llNeverHaveEnough 💙🇺🇸🗽

I love how the outrage here is that federal employees refused to let Musk’s minions from DOGE — a bullshit private body that has absolutely no right to access this info — have open access to federal systems. It’s like getting indignant that a mugger’s victim had the audacity to resist.

"We have fought and died alongside you....During your darkest hours...we were always there. Standing with you, grieving with you, the American people.” I’ve had my differences with Justin Trudeau, for sure, but he rose to the occasion here.

One factor I keep thinking about is that all three leaders here are lame ducks. Sheinbaum and Trump are term-limited, Trudeau is quitting once a new Liberal leader is elected. And the Liberals have gained in polls over the Trump threats.

Ronald Reagan: “Our peaceful trading partners are not our enemies; they are our allies. We should beware of the demagogues who are ready to declare a trade war against our friends—weakening our economy, our national security, and the entire free world—all while cynically waving the American flag.”

Holy ****

Hey, Democratic leaders? Watch this as many times as you need to. Take notes, if you must. And then, for the love of all things holy, step up or get the fuck out of the way.

“The systems include a vast database called Enterprise Human Resources Integration, which contains dates of birth, Social Security numbers, appraisals, home addresses, pay grades & length of service of gov’t workers…We have no visibility into what they are doing with the computer and data systems”

This photo hits hard.

After being asked by a reporter if he planned to visit the crash site, the president got particularly annoyed: "What’s the site, the water? Want me to go swimming?”

The University of Exeter has just announced £5m in scholarships for international students jonling Masters courses in 2025/26, payable as a reduction of the international tuition fees. Deadline of 27 Feb. Spread the word!

Their loss

I’m an NSF panel reviewer that was scheduled to meet today. Just got notice that all NSF panels were canceled today. I reviewed some innovative proposals in support of students. Devastating if these scholars don’t get to do this work. For the love of science & students I hope this is just a delay.💔

i am so sick to my stomach everyday, i have not figured out how to function and do really anything while science is decimated in my home country :( so many of us rely on this funding to do science, & contacting reps feels like it’s not enough

Diseases and viruses know no borders. By being part of the WHO, the United States could get information about public health threat in other countries that could harm Americans—like Ebola outbreaks—and take action to make sure that we are prepared to respond.

Our universities are so good that our adversaries send their children to be educated here. We’re dismantling that unbelievable strategic advantage, hurting our own children and our own health in the process.
