Come on, George. We liberals don't really despise constitutional originalism. We just hate America generally.

PLAUSIBLE SCENARIO: By 1 April 2025, Elon Musk is the single most hated brand in the world. IMPLAUSIBLE SCENARIO: In 2025, Elon Musk helps ordinary Americans, gains support for Trump's agenda, and Trump does not desperately want to detach from Musk. Glad I am not on the Tesla board. #Tightrope

No - SuperDOGE Krypto. He turns out to be loyal to a criminal trillionaire the whole time, then flees to Russia with all Clark's online passwords and dog treats.

WaPo describing your entirely ordinary and unexceptional attempt to put yourself forward for leadership as a "power play" says it all about the casual misogyny and lazy cynicism of 2020s media.

20/ 10. Allowing politically friendly billionaire internet actors to target children, divide the American people for profit, and drive general hysteria over phantoms, while problems 1 through 9 are utterly ignored.

19/ 9. Reversing Biden infrastructure projects, guaranteeing degradation of American infrastructure, causing massive waste (delayed commutes, damage to vehicles) and raising transport costs for all goods

18/ 8. Denial of and politicization of worsening climate-change-driven damage (e.g. hurricanes, floods, tornadoes, droughts, fires), destabilizing insurance markets and raising premiums, and raising agricultural and food costs

17/ 7. Ensuring Chinese dominance of future-critical electric technologies (solar, wind, etc.) and battery technology through disinvestment in U.S. alternative energy technologies and further subsidizing oil and gas
comment in response to post
16/ 6. Ignoring Chinese dominance of rare earth minerals (antimony, coltan, etc.) critical to military weapons systems and communications, while loudly proclaiming a retreat by the U.S. from any forward position in the world, ceding that leadership to China
comment in response to post
15/ 5. Increasing massive investment in "big-iron" traditional defense projects (aircraft carriers, jet fighters, etc.), while neglecting actual future warfare (drones, C4ISR, hacking countermeasures, anti-satellite weaponry and satellite backup options, etc.)

14/ 4. Supporting subversion of representative democracy worldwide; de-emphasizing alliances; sabotaging US-friendly world trade regimes (via tariffs); allowing profitable leaks of all critical military/security technology by disloyal billionaires to China, Russia, and others

13/ 3. Shooting down drones and pushing conspiracy theories about them, while not spending any money on U.S. government drone technology

12/ 2. Tariffs on Chinese and all other foreign goods, which will make Chinese manufacturing far more attractive to all other countries and accelerate the decline of the United States as an economic power

11/ CURRENT MAGA/TRUMP ADMINISTRATION PRIORITIES 1. U.S. federal government run by and for the direct benefit of Elon Musk and other centi-billionaires, who have no actual loyalty to the United States, only to their own wealth, and who now have no check upon their actions

2/ 2. Chinese dominance of world manufacturing, which is already destroying the Japanese and German auto industries, and which by 2030 is on track to be able to outproduce all other countries' output, meaning it can never be defeated in any conventional war

Partly because we called them BIPOC... :D We can never nominate a typical politician, carefully choosing words, again. I'd say we need an FDR, with a coherent bumper-sticker ideology the mass of Americans can be enthusiastic about, but sadly, maybe we just need a celebrity comedian letting it fly.

But I get it. We may not be quite there yet. The Nazis had outlawed gatherings of other parties already, and used violence against them. And many Trump voters were unaware of the depth and breadth of what he was about to do if elected. We may yet see a backlash. I hope so.

I keep putting myself back in early 1933 Germany and asking myself, "Would this opinion/take/warning have helped the Social Democrats forestall Hitler?" If we are now kind of doomed to endure something similar to what Germany did after March 1933, I think appeals to common humanity might be moot...?

10/ At any rate, if anyone heard or saw anything about this, I'd really like to know the details. Because this should not simply slip down the memory hole. These bastards need to be exposed. /end

9/ But I think this event should have been publicized by media, BEFORE the election. In fact, maybe it should have been a national story. But journalism appears to be dead in the United States, which really helps the worst people in the world.

8/ Maybe the congregation fears publicity, given what its people have been through already, especially now that the candidate of those bigots is in power. I would not blame them.

7/ "You sure it wasn't Palestinian protesters?" I asked. No, I was told - definitely Trump and MAGA flags being brandished. At any rate, I have searched the media for reports on this (which I am VERY certain DID take place, because these folks do not make stuff up), and have found nothing.

6/ Telling me about it weeks later, she was still dumbfounded at their actions. Why would Trumpers be chanting at American citizens "Go home," much less Orthodox Jewish citizens? Was it flat-out hatred of the unfamiliar? Hard-right anti-Semitism? What the hell?

5/ He noticed a ruckus outside the synagogue, with pickup trucks brandishing Trump and MAGA flags. The second relative, following close behind, heard the Trump supporters waving their MAGA flags and chanting at the people walking into the synagogue, "GO HOME," repeatedly.

4/ The first of my relatives noticed a security presence, including horseback cops, seemingly protecting the congregation, which was families in traditional Orthodox garb walking into the synagogue for services.

3/ (From Google Maps I think it was Congregation Shaarei Tzedek Mishkan Yair, famous to us goyim as the former site of Barnaby's pizza restaurant, a neighborhood 1970s staple.) My (Irish Catholic) relatives were driving two cars to my late dad's house to remove stuff prior to its sale.

2/ During a recent brief visit to the homeland (Chicago), some highly reliable relatives told me that, right before the election, they were driving east on a Friday (11/1?) past a synagogue on Touhy Avenue.
