The Mam Tor, Castleton problem needs more than fines, boulders on verges and beefed-up parking restrictions. We need investment in long term, appealing, affordable alternatives to actively reduce the number of cars ever entering the National Park. @jon4highpeak.bsky.social @peakdistrict.bsky.social

In fact, since the A555 was meant to open Spring 2018 before being delayed, I could’ve really said 7 years… I wrote to the council, councillors and MP yesterday asking for an update.

It’s now 6 years 4 months since the extended A555 & cycleway opened and @stockportcouncil.bsky.social still haven’t solved the 400 metre gap linking it to Middlewood Way. Not even any public proposals. The lack of safe ‘active’ alternative is hurting all road users, our productivity, our wellbeing.

This would be amazing on the Edale line. Last summer I was turned away because the bike space was already full.

Hazel catkins zinging, hills of the Peak brooding, along the Peak Forest Canal today. I just love this moment when our land breaks its slumber.

Beautiful Saturday for a bike ride?

Has anyone ventured up the Brickworks climb recently and is it rather spoiled as I expect by diverted traffic due to the B5470 Macc Rd closure? So far I’ve just avoided it on purpose. B5470 looks closed for the foreseeable so thinking I should probably add a note to the route guide.

Kinder looking cold. I know, maybe sometime this year I’ll post cycling content.

Statement from Walk Ride GM on the comments made by Andrew Gywnne MP and local councillors about a local campaigner

Wales’ 20mph speed limit is delivering incredible results: ✅ 100 fewer deaths/serious injuries on 20 & 30mph roads ✅ 35% drop in road casualties (Jul–Sep 2024 vs. same period in 2023) ✅ Lowest casualty rate for this period since 1979 The data is clear: slower speeds save lives. 🔗 bbc.in/4aGd72h

What a day. It blows my mind that you can get to these views on a £2 bus from Stockport. Details below...

There is a petition for a footpath to be created between Forge Manor and the schools on Buxton Road, Chinley. @whaleychronicle.bsky.social @peaksandpuddles.com @paultattam.bsky.social @peakdistrict.bsky.social You can access it here democracy.derbyshire.gov.uk/mgEPetitionD...

Cool snowy scenes of the Peak District are just a 5-10 minute walk off a bus route from Stockport or train from Manchester. But try telling that to the Mam Tor carbrains.

White over the Peak: snow scenes from Eaves Knoll, New Mills Go for a walk in the snow without getting cold in 37 photos from a white-over Eaves Knoll, giving 360-views of our frozen Peak District hills. www.peaksandpuddles.com/blog/2025/01...

Peak District National Park Authority opening up possibility of voluntary redundancy to all employees due to financial shortfall. Happy new year…! Please see that government funds our National Parks properly @jon4highpeak.bsky.social. (Or give them more powers to raise themselves?)

Not going to be able to walk, cycle or jog length of Mersey in Manchester for a while. Other image is a breach on one of the golf courses.

Well I was in bed by 11pm but it seems the River Goyt has woken up with a major hangover.

2024 year in review. Rode a bike a bit. 2025 aims: do that again but more.

Stopped to drop off a parcel while passing a little parade of shops and there was actually proper cycle parking. It’s not hard is it!

When the skies finally cleared around Kinder Scout yesterday.

In GM, we are not just keeping the £2 cap on single bus fares in 2025. From Sunday, we are turning it into a “Hopper” fare so you can travel on multiple buses within the hour. 👍🏻 More here: bit.ly/4gU2OK2 1/4

A burst of sunset between the clouds beyond Cobden Edge… …throwing a golden blaze behind, across Cown Edge. I love little moments like that.

Boxing Day both sides of Marple ridge. Beautiful in its own way. Not joining the masses, just trying to politely get around them to feed the cat on the other side!

New Mills cycle parking availability update today. Not ideal for shopping locally and sustainably two days before Christmas…

An absolute cracker of a lane on the edge of Greater Manchester. www.peaksandpuddles.com/cycle-routes...
